To have reported these builders ?

At lunch time I walked to the nearest shops to work and passed a site where there are retirement homes being built. As I walked by a couple of builders whistled and shouted 'oy' . I noticed a sign outside the site saying something about 'considerate construction' so rang it immediately! I wasn't rude but I did point out that shouting at people walking by was hardly considerate.

Why do I feel so guilty then!? MEH!

"I just think rather than complaining about a couple of arsehole builders you could of made them look likes arses and carried on about ya business" But how would I do that without making myself look like an arse?

"No Dom Joly was proving a point to the builders it was not a Homophobia issue its a complaint show he also went to Capital the credit card company and left loads of junk mail through there letter box.
" - yes, but what I meant was - by having a man in drag who then flashed his cock and balls at them there was a certain amount of 'look at you, you idiots, you wolf whistled a man' and it's clear from the builder's reaction on the video that they were shocked and embarrassed by the fact they had whistled a man!'

Blimey if i was in a bar and i was being whistled and touched i would be complaining to the managment, drunk or not,why should men be allowed to get away with such behaviour!

bodycolder · 03/11/2008 16:52

All of those defending these idiots must be living in the dark ages.It really isn't alright to amke someone feel uncomfortable like that and if the company has such a sign up they sound like they don't want it either Its not as if they didn't know there was a number to ring for this sort of thing yet they still did it.Why can't they get on with their bloody work and whistle at their wives and girlfriends if they really think women like that.

LittleWhizzingBella · 03/11/2008 16:57

"I just think rather than complaining about a couple of arsehole builders you could of made them look likes arses and carried on about ya business"

They already looked like arses.

And why should women put up with this? Basically, all you apologists for cowardly builders (because they never do it when you're with a man or if there's only one of them, they wait until you're on your own and they're with their mates, the pathetic cowards) are simply telling other women that we should all meekly accept being intimidated by builders and not stick up for ourselves.

And whoever said it really is a compliment - get real. It's a sexually aggressive display of male bonding. It's not about the women, it's about the cameraderie with the lads.

firstontheway - Naturally I agree.

I'd love to know, 2shoes, if you went to apply for a loan or to have a smear, or to see the school your kids were going to go to and an employee started wolf whistling you - would that be ok too

sorry didn't realise you were going to get a smear from a builder

bodycolder · 03/11/2008 17:01

It is not about the smear it is about inappropriate behaviour from someone providing a service

needmorecoffee · 03/11/2008 17:03

I went and complained when the builders 5 yards from my gate (they are building a new library) said 'look at the spastic' about dd. And gave them a bollocking.
Not one of them whistles at anyone or shouts at anybody.
sexism, racism or disablism. Its all wrong.

Tortington · 03/11/2008 17:03

i like it - the whilstling of builders.

your all fucking isane

2shoes, you haven't answered my question about whether you believe that people should be responsible for their own actions. Do you? Or do you think that everyone should just be able to break the rules at work without any consequences to themselves? Or is it just builders who should be allowed to do this?

VineGuyFawkesFeltMyTits · 03/11/2008 17:06

I love to have compliments from men too, but thats not what they are doing, i totally agree with LWB when she says

'It's a sexually aggressive display of male bonding. It's not about the women, it's about the cameraderie with the lads. '

bodycolder · 03/11/2008 17:06

It is only builders who seem to cross the line.

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 03/11/2008 17:07

Of course people should be responsible for their own actions. the builders were having a laugh and will pay the price.

just can't see anything funny about trying to get someone the sacl

2shoes - I meant if you went to get a smear from a doctor, or a loan from a bank manager or to see the school your kids were going to go to.

does that make it easier for you to answer the question now it's a bit clearer?

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 03/11/2008 17:08

Good question bella.

The people who think the OP is responsible for losing those builders their jobs (as if) remind me of the kids at school who used to blame you if the teacher caught them doing something bad to you - as if somehow how they acted was your fault.

If the OP was honest and stated what had happened then how can this possibly be wrong - it did happen.

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 03/11/2008 17:08

needmorecoffee that is different. in that case dh and ds would have decked them.

"Of course people should be responsible for their own actions. the builders were having a laugh and will pay the price" If I don't report them, how will they 'pay the price' and what 'price' do you think they should pay?

What 'price' do you put on this kind of behaviour?

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 03/11/2008 17:09

Twoshoes, what price will the builders pay?

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 03/11/2008 17:10

beanieb i got you the first time. just thought it was a silly comparison.
at the end of the day as long as you are sure it was you that the men were whistling at and not someone else. and you are happy that they might have lost their jobs. then fine yanbu

2shoeshissbangwhoosh · 03/11/2008 17:11

they have most likely got sacked .....that is the price I was talking about.

needmorecoffee · 03/11/2008 17:12

I'd rather someone decked them myself. Sick of builders.
