I know, I know shouldn't watch it blardy blah, don't normally but sat down with my sandwich flicked through the channels. They were having a debate about single mothers, not fathers, single mothers with lots of children on benefits and how they should work. Not one of them made an educated or valid comment they all just sat there making stereotypical daily mail type shit, ie its easy to get a job when your child goes to school (school holidays anyone?). What angers me is that presumably their lives are very different to the average single mum's on benefit, how dare they sit and slate them without even beginning to empathise.
I am a newly single mum, after 10 years and four children we have decided to call it a day. Sadly the fact that other people might view me like this really does bother me. Currently I work and hope to continue to do so, but potentially if juggling it all childcare etc becomes too difficult i may have to have a break for a while, and whilst i will do everything in my power to prevent this from happening, i simply don't know how much support i'm going to get from my p untl it happens. So yes its emotive for me but grr at these women and grrrr at all the delighted farkin clapping.

I to just watched that!

Quadrophenia · 03/11/2008 13:35

thye never ever back anything up that they say, it's like they are discussing shoes, it's just so flimsy.

I can't see the point of them they are intensely irritating, there was delia smith the other day slagging off jackie smith calling her a scrubber because she didn't go to the right school (at least I think it was delia smith might have been a skinny anne diamond) why oh why does anyone care what these women think? If it was delia she should stick to talking about M&S mince..

cornsilkpyrotechnicqueen · 03/11/2008 13:38

Hooray for this thread!

Quadrophenia · 03/11/2008 13:39

they clearly don't have the time to discuss anything properly, so issues worthy of proper discussion should be best left out of it IMO

Me too. I watched it once to see how bad it was when I was ill. It's true. It's bad.

rebelmum1 · 03/11/2008 13:40

I'd prefer to be called a slut by RB than listen to this banal nonsense .. It's far more offensive.

LouMacca · 03/11/2008 13:41

I just watched it too. I think that you can rest assured that most intelligent people think they all talk utter crap. What planet does Coleen Nolan live on? And how can Carol McGiffen even comment? She doesn't have children so couldn't possibly have any empathy with mothers on any level!

kristatwin · 03/11/2008 13:41

Call me sad ! But i actually really enjoy the show, put the twins down for there nap, a sandwich and cup of tea, hightlight of my day !!

YANBU I hate them lot. Didn't see this show but what crap they have come out with (reading your comments on what they said). I am knackered with 4 kids (one on way too) and do enough (unpaid work but still work) with childcare and housework (full time job or what) and I have a DH who does the garden etc. I often think if I was a lone parent I would be expected to do all this and more AND get a job on top. I don't judge single parents on benefit, never have, they are doing a job in m eyes by bringing up kids. It is the father they should go after if anyone.

WilyWombat · 03/11/2008 13:44

Well I used to really enjoy it, im sure they used to be a little more raucus, now its just like some kind of middle of the road menopause fest - cant bear it.

horsemadgal · 03/11/2008 13:45

Who is that Carol one anyways?

mayorquimby · 03/11/2008 13:45

"The other thing that pisses me off is people like Nicole Kidman [prior to new baby] whining about how hard it was to be a single parent - really? With all that fucking money - 4 nannies and cleaning staff? Not having to worry about the mortgage/ rent/ food? Being so farking tired trying to work having had no sleep with a vomiting toddler?

I honestly can't believe the judgmental crap those women come out with."

surely your appraisal of nicole kidman is just as judgmental as anything they spout and works on the assumption that the hard part of being a single parent is simply monetary.

i think it is a hideous pile of crap. who gives a shit what they think, they all talk rubbish and their opinions are not worth a penny.
