To not change my shopping day?

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:17

My shopping day has ALWAYS been a tuesday. Simply because I get paid on tuesday and by MOnday night we tend to have sweet f-all in the cupboards.

My mum knows this.

Yet 3 weeks ago she decided she was going to my grandmas on tuesday and asked
"are you coming to grandmas with me?"

so I said "no, its my shopping day"

so she said "can't you do that another day?"

so I said "no, nothing in house, it needs doing when I get paid".

So fast foward to the week after....Tuesday again...

"are you coming to grandmas today?"

me - "no, its shopping day"
mum - "can't you do it a different day?
me - "no, like I said last week, it needs doing on tuesday"

So, this week...today actually...

mum "are you coming to grandmas tomorow?"
me - "nope, shopping day"
mum - "hmp! you always say that, grandma said why can't you change your shopping day??"

OH FOR FOOKS SAKE!!! AIBU?????????

Are you trying to avoid your grandma?

Would an occasional compromise work? Perhaps only do 1 day's worth of shopping on the Tuesday, just to tide you over, then shop on Wednesday and do the rest of it?

I think you are being a bit unreasonable, but I don't know your situation and I am wondering if there will be more info in a little while, which will explain more to us.

Weegle · 20/10/2008 13:25

YABU - either do both, or change it. Can't you read back your post and realise that you do sound a bit like "not tonight luv, I'm washing my hair"?!

Uriel · 20/10/2008 13:26

Why can't your mum change the day she goes to see grandma?

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:27

But I can go to my grandmas anytime...why does it always have to be a tuesday?? Its like they delibrately pick the days that they know I have shit to do.

It's like if I plan to go to my mums on a wednesday you can guarantee my grandma will phone and say "why can't you do that another day and come here wednesday instead?"

Like one time I'd planned to go to town on the friday...

"are you coming on friday?"
"no soz, planned to go to town, been planned all week"
"can't you do that another day? I thought you could come here on friday?"

Its not that I avoid her, I just can't be arsed sitting in a house listening to 3 people slagging off all other family members whilst sticking up for the ones that should be slagged off!

It annoys me....

For instance....

"Oh, you know 'sarah', I went to her house last week and the pots were still in the sink! lazy sod!"

but then....

"Oh, well Alice does go out drinking 4 nights a week leaving 4 year old Poppy with anyone who will have her...but its not all that bad, she needs a break does Alice..."

don't we all.

What a pointless thing to get so worked up about.

Either do both or go shopping another day.

Or get online shopping to be delivered tuesday teatime.

I agree your grandma will not be here forever...

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:30

But why the tuesday?? why can't I go on wednesday? or thursday? why does it have to be tuesday???

You can guarantee that if I changed my shopping day to a wednesday they'd all be asking if I was going visiting on wednesday.

Hmm I'm not sure that they are deliberately trying to disrupt the weekly shop, why would they? Can't you do both?

southeastastra · 20/10/2008 13:32

my sister always teases me about my 'shopping day' it takes so long though and wears me out so i can empathise with you

harleyd · 20/10/2008 13:33

i love that my life is so uncomplicated
and that i dont have any major problems to deal with

TheArmadillo · 20/10/2008 13:34

Can't you do your shopping first thing in morning and go see granma later?

OR is this a pattern of your mother's always asking you to do stuff when you have already said no?

Tee2072 · 20/10/2008 13:37

I don't get it either. It takes all day to go shopping?

And I concur with whomever said to order from Tesco online. They'll even deliver latish at night! Mine comes in between 7 and 9, for example.

Uriel · 20/10/2008 13:37

So what happens if you say to your mum that you can't go today, what about going tomorrow or next Wednesday/Friday/whatever. Does she agree?

emmalou78 · 20/10/2008 13:39

CAn I be harsh?

Right yes a rutine is a wonderful thing, and families are frequently a royal pain in the arse.

But you know, Grannies are generaly quite old - what happens next week when your mum rings and says 'can you come see granny on tuesday?' and you say 'no shopping day sorry'

then on wednesday your mum rings up and tells you that whilst granny hadn't been ill she'd died suddenly in the night.

and you sodslaw would dictate the funeral would be the following tuesday.

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:39

No she won't agree, she'll just say "well I've made plans to go on tuesday now!".

I dont order from tesco, now allowed.

I agree with TDWP why cant u go to your Grandmas for an hour then go and do your shopping YABU to get so annoyed about something so simple

ditheringdora · 20/10/2008 13:42

oh bloody hell, what's the name of the film -you know ww2 strangers meeting on the platform, grit gets in her eye?
She had a shopping day, when she exchanged her books at Boots and canoodled with a married man. That's what your thread reminded me of, she was very posh, I thought, with her shopping day...

you never answered the question so many asked
why can't you do both?
see your grandma in the morning, go shopping in the afternoon or vice versa
yabu and sound a little bit odd to be honest

pingping · 20/10/2008 13:48
