To not change my shopping day?

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:17

My shopping day has ALWAYS been a tuesday. Simply because I get paid on tuesday and by MOnday night we tend to have sweet f-all in the cupboards.

My mum knows this.

Yet 3 weeks ago she decided she was going to my grandmas on tuesday and asked
"are you coming to grandmas with me?"

so I said "no, its my shopping day"

so she said "can't you do that another day?"

so I said "no, nothing in house, it needs doing when I get paid".

So fast foward to the week after....Tuesday again...

"are you coming to grandmas today?"

me - "no, its shopping day"
mum - "can't you do it a different day?
me - "no, like I said last week, it needs doing on tuesday"

So, this week...today actually...

mum "are you coming to grandmas tomorow?"
me - "nope, shopping day"
mum - "hmp! you always say that, grandma said why can't you change your shopping day??"

OH FOR FOOKS SAKE!!! AIBU?????????

I am bemused that anyone would even have a "shopping day", can't you just go whenever it's convenient or worst comes to the worst just have baked beans.

GhostlySinCity · 20/10/2008 13:55

But I've never seen the ocean.

I suppose I could do both, or I could just go another day which would make more sense really.

I have loads to do tomorow. I have to go and do the shopping (3 different shops, all miles apart), go home and wrap up parcels for ebay. Go back to the post office and send them off....

I just don't see why it has to be a tuesday!

I thought I recognised the op, she has a rather, erm, colourful posting history.

Bubbaluv · 20/10/2008 13:56

I assume you work full time and so can't do the shopping in the morning and visit nan in the afternoon?

pingping · 20/10/2008 13:57

Ghostlysincity does your Grandma wear a track suit is that why you don't want to go?

Visit your gran and grab some fish and chips on the way home or just something for that night then do the shopping on Wednesday.

Sorry, YABU.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/10/2008 14:03

Are you just bitter that they don't share your loathing of tracksuit families?

yes bloodandmutts, thats what I have suggested! I mean, does it really matter if I go on wednesday instead?

I think there is something very strange at being so rigid that you will only do shopping on one specific day. Can't see that it would hurt to do as others have suggested and just grab something for one night or fish and chips. Then shop on Wed.

However I do think that if your mum and gran constantly expect you to drop everything for them when you can actually see them anytime then that is unreasonable of them too.

So I would be tempted to stick to your guns but rather than getting all ranty about it just calmly tell them that you are busy on Tuesday but that you iwll hapily visit your Gran on Wed or Thurs. Or whenever you are free.

Sorry but pmsl at the funeral being on tuesday too even though I know thats highly inappropriate!!!

fish and chips cost a fortune. I'm skint. Hence my military style shopping. And I've never seen the ocean anyway.
