everytime I log on I feel old and sad and fat and boring, all my friends appear to be doing cool stuff and nobody evens sends me any pesonal messages just tatt. there are loads of picas of all my mates looking cool and going out clubbing and being wild, looking skinny and young and fun, I used to be there too.

Now I was never skinny but I can sympathise on all the other points .
If one more friend declares her 'disgust' at having to provide another dress or yet another black tie do I shall scream.
Oh, poor them, what it is to have to go to so many parties.
Meanwhile my status reads something along the lines of:
Edward is doing the washing up ad cleaning up cat puke.
The glamour.

Everyone looks younger, more exciting , richer and skinnier than me as well but I still keep plodding along. Same to real life I suppose.

You're lucky, I was never there I know what you mean, yesterday I untagged myself from some awful pics so they wouldn't show on my profile. Even the ones I do have can't lie - I have become fat and boring. And abit of a loser.

Nah. I hate it too. I briefly had a profile, just to try it out, but it felt pointless and childish. So I deactivated it.

I am far too old for such kind of things!

I de-registered mine today. Haven't logged in for months, but was getting e-mailed with friend requests from my old school bullies! Why would I want to be friends with them? Plus, I don't like the way you are bombarded with "reports" if anyone so much as scratches their arse - a bit creepy I think.

I love facebook though, am on it as much as here and to people whom I see or know so my appearance is not an unpleasant shock.

I love it when work colleagues forget that all and sundry can read their status and change it to "x is floating through meetings not really knowing what's going on" - LOL.

My least favourite thing is when people try to engage in rows over Facebook status messages, esp if you can only see half of it, e.g. "x thought it was perfectly reasonable and that anyone who thinks differently is really stupid" ... ten minutes later ... "x has had enough and refuses to discuss it further" etc. And these are adults!

Oh my other least favourite thing is that my nephew is listed as looking for dating. He's twelve Well, he's not going to be up to much on Facebook when he's friends with me, another aunt, our cousins and his mum and dad!

Yeah, I get reports of "Skinny Sexbomb Jones-Smythingto-Smyth is looking forward to Gatecrasher tonight!" and "Richbitch McQuidly enjoy the party with TPT - now for moe cocaine and good sex with b list slebs" and (from the MN crew) "Bunting Cupcake's Ocado delivery is late, but I'm going to tip the driver anyway because I'm incredibly gracious in that way" and (ok from the real MN crew) "Mummy Onthenet is tired aand a bit bored, and is fossicking around in the fridge"... ok, that last one was me.

I love it. It's a good way of keeping up to date with what people are doing without having to speak to or meet them!

True but at least people address each other directly on here and you can read both sides of the argument if you want to, on FB it's mixed up in status updates that you might or might not be interested in, although I do like Colditz's examples! RichBitch McQuidly would do well to remember potential employers trawl for info on FB!

BitOfFun, how long had it been since you had contact with your "old school bullies"? Just curious. Several years back I ran into one of mine. I was visiting home and was waiting on a friend for a movie. I had a bit of time so I walked into a little cafe across from the theatre. Behind the bar was this girl that I hadn't seen in about 3 years.
She had since married, divorced etc., was just trying to make her way through life like the rest of us. She tried to make conversation but was working and I had to leave but clearly she had grown up and wasn't the bully that school atmosphere supports. Life is a great leveler of the playing field.
I can take or leave Facebook although I usually don't have time. I do like Mn though mainly because I find that everyone is very much the same everywhere.

Facebook is a narcistist's paradise ... X is fabulous & needs everyone else to know it. The vanity is astounding ... yawn.

god i cant stand it!!!!!!!

what is with all the holding your bloody camera out and taking your own picture, while looking vacantly at someone standing behind the camera who is not even there!!!!!

or even worse, standing in front of a mirror with your camera and taking a full length pose, then adding tags saying "oh, gosh. dont i look fat in this one?" oh yeah because if you really thought you looked fat you would post the picture on the www!!!

then all the stupid comments that people put up

i.e "if you are going to bitch about me, at least do it to my face"

or

"cant stand fucking ignorant people"

so that everyone who sees it thinks have i done something to offend them or is someone else in the firing line. chances are no-one has done anything but they just want to look like people think they worth talking about.

which brings me onto the whole obsession with wanting people to think you are some kind of bitch but that you dont care that they think that because a bitch is a cool thing to be.

worst thing by far though is the whole "i am a nutter me, totally kerazy!!!"

i deleted my account a few weeks ago, and cant say i have really missed the comments saying "hey babe, howz things"

Oh, I also get annoyed by my brother-in-law's very ex-wife, who I've probably met 10 times, wanting me to be one of her 'best friends'. Eh?

I love it...only just joined about 6 weeks ago

have found loads of old school friends that I haven't seen in donkeys and arranged some meet ups

it's been great to catch up with people and find out what they've been doing with their lives

wehaveallbeenthere- I haven't seen them since school, but I don't doubt you are quite right about people changing. All the same, I just don't feel comfortable with people I don't properly know being able to see all my conga and goings on facebook. I don't know why I joined in the first place really, but it definitely wasn't my cup of tea.

But that is because I'm totally IT retarded and don't know how to get on it! Loads of my friends are on it and keep sending me mails and telling me to get on it! Will have to move into this century and learn I guess!

i was enjoying it until i realized that i'd posted a load of "challenges" and -when i saw hubbie's page-it looks like i'm a stalker!!Plus,when noone seems to be active on it, I start to feel like a fat old loser...which is probably what i am...plus far too old to be on it anyway and then when you bump into your facebook friends,you don't know what to say to them except nod at them knowingly!!!!

It's horrible.

Yes, all my old friends are transformed into beautiful people and i'm still just me.

It was nice for a few months catching up with old faces and then i started to get a bit creeped out by it.

I'd just had enough one day and deactivated it about 6 months ago without telling anyone. It was worth it not to have to think about all the people who'd made contact with me simply to score points in the game of 'who's life is best'.

I mean if you're playing that game it pretty much means you've lost, doesn't it?

I couldn't be less competitive and i'm pretty happy with my lot - SAHM to dd, not married, living with dp. Not the attention grabbing stuff everyone goes on facebook to brag about, but it's good enough for me.

I'm on it although I'm well aware that most people my age actually have a life and have probably only heard of it through their grown up kids.

Suppose I was hoping some long lost admirer would look me up and want to be my friend. It hasn't happened. I get friends request from my DD's friends.

yeah,i must admit,i realized i was the only one "without a life" as such...in other words,everyone else was living this amazing,extravagant lifestyle and i was still me....SAHM etc.etc.and my last job was yonks ago...so i just knocked that bit off my profile....That makes things a bit more interesting...if anyone gives a sh*t anyway!!!because my friend has the most amazing job and i noticed-due to privacy laws etc.-she didn't have her job-stuff up either...so,if anyone---doubt it but!!!-if anyone wants to look...they don't know what life i'm leading.(and believe me...i KNOW FOR CERTAIN that people put their very best photographs on their profile....!!!!)
