to take an instant dislike to suburban drivers with bullbars?

I mean WHY?

Its selfish and shows a total lack of any sort of regard for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

Its not as if they are going to drive into a bull in Basingstoke is it? The biggest thing they are likely to hit is someone else's child.

yanbu. They are twunts of the highest order. Bull bars cause more damage to whoever they hit.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 01/10/2008 18:21

YANBU - can't understand why anyone would need these in suburbia - dangerous in the highest.

wahwah · 01/10/2008 18:22

yanbu.

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 18:23

They are awful and they should be banned - there is no reason for them at all (apart from the disease called wankerishness)

Herodias · 01/10/2008 18:23

yep, bull bars are only needed by farmers and cowboys surely?

Bramshott · 01/10/2008 18:24

YANBU, buuuutt - some cars come with them on, and I don't think it's that easy to get them removed is it?

Bramshott · 01/10/2008 18:25

Or are they an added extra that you choose and pay for? In which case YANBU at all! I had just assumed they came with the car though.

GobbledigookisThrifty · 01/10/2008 18:27

YABU because you know nothing about the people driving them.

I mean, I see no reason for them but I don't know the person well enough to start name calling.

Generally, I just hate shit drivers regardless of the car - plenty of them driving way too fast on my school run route, mounting the pavement to park as we are walking along and taking corners too sharply and mounting the pavement. People do this in all sorts of cars. I don't care how likely or not the specific car is to kill me or anyone else - I'd just rather everyone knew how to drive considerately before getting into any sort.

suedonim · 01/10/2008 18:27

I thought bullbars were banned years ago? Or maybe they only talked about banning them.

AnarchyAunt · 01/10/2008 18:28

I assumed they were an extra.

Mind you I am unconvinced that anyone in surburbia needs the sort of vehicle that has bullbars either.

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 18:28

So long as you don't mind suburban dryads with bullbars.

Not that I have a bullbar.

YANBU.

AnarchyAunt · 01/10/2008 18:30

Why would the people driving round quiet streets need the bullbars though?

I cannot think of any reason at all.

And even good drivers can hit pedestrians - kids can run out for example. Bullbars make it far more likely that the person will die or be seriously injured.

OP posts:
SaintRiven · 01/10/2008 18:31

why would anyone need a bullbar? It just makes shit drivers more likely to kill you when they hit.

AnarchyAunt · 01/10/2008 18:32

SuD - nah

OP posts:
Upwind · 01/10/2008 18:33

I think the rules were changed years ago so bullbars are no longer fitted as standard. But if you are the kind of arse who wants them you can still have them fitted

All urban and suburban 4x4 drivers are twunts, in my experience.

stitch · 01/10/2008 18:34

what is a bullbar?

unfitmother · 01/10/2008 18:35

YANBU at all

AnarchyAunt · 01/10/2008 18:43

Bull bars

2000 deaths and 18000 serious injuries a year in Europe.

OP posts:
Twelvelegs · 01/10/2008 18:46

and 4x4s....
yanbu

SaintGeorge · 01/10/2008 18:54

They should be illegal but unfortunately aren't.

Manufacturers don't fit them to new vehicles anymore, but even that is not law just an industry agreement.

Since 2007 newly manufactured bull bars have to fit an EU standard for safety (ie made of flexible materials) but there are still too many old style ones around.

suedonim · 01/10/2008 19:16

This is like deja vue. I recall talking with my bro about banning BB's, well before dd was born, and she's now 12yo! Bullbars are still much in evidence here in W Africa, where maybe they could at a pinch be justified on account of marauding goats, but I had imagined they'd otherwise gone the way of Crimplene and Aertex knickers in the UK.

nickytwotimes · 01/10/2008 19:17

Yanbu at all.

noonki · 01/10/2008 19:18

YANBU in the slightest littlest bit.

They make me grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

AnarchyAunt · 01/10/2008 19:19

We do not have marauding goats where I live. I don't think so anyway.

Isn't Aertex the stuff you put on ceilings though?

Unless you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, I really can't see why anyone would need bullbars or even the kind of vehicles that have bullbars. I don't see the point or attraction of 4x4s.
