I mean WHY?

Its selfish and shows a total lack of any sort of regard for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

Its not as if they are going to drive into a bull in Basingstoke is it? The biggest thing they are likely to hit is someone else's child.

AA, the ceiling stuff is Artex. Aertex was a type of knitted cotton fabric with holes in, to allow the skin to breath. Trouble was, if you sat still in the knickers for too long, your poor skin felt as though it was being forced through a colander and you'd would itch, itch, itch!

AnarchyAunt · 02/10/2008 11:28

They sound awful - uncomfy knickers are just grim.

Anyway to return to my gripe, I see them every day on shiny 4x4s as we walk to school, and it just pisses me off. I can't see any reason beyond image/ego to have them, and IMO that is not an acceptable reason to put pedestrian and cyclists at such massively increased risk.

Perhaps they have herds of wildebeests in their gardens. They can get nasty those wildebeests...

Sort of agree, they are a bit pointless as well as ugly, but some vehicles come with them already. If you are careful they aren't that much of a risk to other roads users are they? If the driver is a tosser, he'd still be a tosser with or without them.

SheikYerbouti · 02/10/2008 11:35

It's well known that herds of maruafding buffalo pass thro8gh the streets ob Bath between 8:45-9:05am and 2:45-3:30pm.

It's a natural phenomena and it only happens in term time

VinegarTits · 02/10/2008 11:37

YANBU

AnarchyAunt · 02/10/2008 11:42

Oh yes just imagine the damage one of these 'buffalo' could cause to their vehicle!

I do agree that pedestrians need to be careful. But accidents do happen (even to good drivers), and I just think there's no excuse for vehicles to have a feature that is of no use in most areas, and increases the risk to pedestrians significantly.

YANBU - 4x4s are for people who want to be the biggest thing on the road so when they crash because of their crap driving their darling little children will not be hurt.

Upwind · 02/10/2008 11:44

SaintGeorge pointed out that "Manufacturers don't fit them to new vehicles anymore, but even that is not law just an industry agreement." So the idiots in the shiny new tanks with bullbars have actually gone to the trouble of having them fitted, to pose even more of a threat to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

I've often noticed that incompetent drivers seem to prefer 4x4s as they feel safer. I wonder do they put bullbars on simply because they often have fender benders and it is a way of minimising the damage to their own vehicle?

TheFallenMadonna · 02/10/2008 11:45

I'm not sure what I need to know about the people driving the cars TBH.

Bull bars increase the risk of death or serious injury massively, and you can drive as carefully as you like, but accidents will still happen.
