OK, if you want to twist my words into something nasty, go ahead. I also said I find men who can't use a washing machine a turn off. I should have said 'except for men with no hands / who are blind / have a phobia of washing machines', too, obviously!

MrsMattie · 30/09/2008 19:57

I only started learning to drive at the age of 30. At that age I realised how utterly pathetic it was that I relied on other people to transport me and that I couldn't actually operate a car. Different strokes indeed.

georgimama · 30/09/2008 19:57

Will anyone admit that their husband is a shit driver? Mine terrifies me. He doesn't have accidents I admit, and I am a control freak, but his insistence on driving with one hand as if his steering wheel is the throttle of a F16 jet is truly scary.

Everything else about him is great though.

LuLuMacGloo · 30/09/2008 19:58

Actually dh CAN'T use the washing machine and that IS a major turn off...

pointydog · 30/09/2008 19:58

A big lard arse driving a car

Attractive?

Mercy · 30/09/2008 19:59

This is getting ridiculous

pointydog · 30/09/2008 19:59

yes, isn't it wonderful

mamhaf · 30/09/2008 20:05

I had an ex who couldn't drive AND criticised my driving. Hence ex.

Dh is a great driver, does the arm over the headrest thing, brilliant at fixing stuff and can put the washing machine/dishwasher on and iron. All of these v. attractive.

LuLuMacGloo · 30/09/2008 20:06

Georgimama - Okay - I'll come clean here. The reason that DH failed his test when he did finally get around to sitting it 10 years later was because HE COULDN'T STEER.

Even if he does re-sit now, I'm buggered if I'll get in a car with him.

Thankfully, I'm happy as we are (and I still find him attractive )

georgimama · 30/09/2008 20:10

Couldn't steer? I can understand gears being tricky, but power steering? Dear God.

No I wouldn't get in a car with someone who can't turn a wheel either.

georgimama · 30/09/2008 20:11

Big lard arse driving a car - depends on the car.

Porsche 911 or Aston Martin DB9, oh yes. Very.

LuLuMacGloo · 30/09/2008 20:14

Actually - it was that long ago that it probably wasn't power steering - just the old fashioned kind. Gawd knows how he'd do with anything more advanced.

BTW when he failed on the crap steering thing, he was only sitting the test because his Dad (heep big 4x4 man) was giving him jip. I'm sure he could have steered properly if he'd remotely arsed himself - but he just couldn't work up the enthusiasm. Which is why I love him.

milene · 30/09/2008 20:26

I can't drive and neither can DP. Always lived in big cities so never needed to tbh.

onebatmother · 30/09/2008 20:29

Always lived in Zone 2 too, never more than 4 mins from tube. But Now I can drive I feel like a proper grown-up. And that's the honest truth.

Wezzle · 30/09/2008 20:29

YANBU

pointydog · 30/09/2008 20:30

Thing is, many women like being the tiny helpless girl who needs a big strong man to take her away.

Fair enough. But that is a more pathetic image than a bloke who cna't drive.

ahundredtimes · 30/09/2008 20:32

For all that she hates them, Cod is gifted and talented at AIBU threads imo.

MrsMattie · 30/09/2008 20:33

lol@ahundredtimes.

There you go, Cod. You are G&T. Bet you love that, don't you?

onebatmother · 30/09/2008 20:34

She smells of is G&T, certainly.

LuLuMacGloo · 30/09/2008 20:35

Agree. All hail Cod. She's a master.

pointydog · 30/09/2008 20:36

she doesn't hate them. She loves them and wants their babies

ahundredtimes · 30/09/2008 20:37

extension work:

AIBU to htink fat pepole are crap inbed?

UnquietDad · 30/09/2008 20:38

LOL at male strippers all "in the navy, or holding tool belts and hard hats." Which of course does not make them look remotely like members of the Village People. Oh no. It makes them macho.

MrsMattie - "basic life skill" FFS. Cars are nothing to do with basic life skills. You cannot compare them to reading and writing. If public transport were better nobody would need to drive. I hardly think that makes them essential.

I learnt to drive when I was 17, DH still hasn't learn, & I don't think he will now. It is a real pita at times, but ti doesn't make him unattractive. He was in a car crash when he was younger & I don't think he feels confident. IMO that makes him more attractive than an idiot road rage fuelled maniac behind the wheel of a potential killing machine.
