To have sworn at the stupid man who refused to sell me a newspaper?

Because it was 'yesterdays'.

This was at about half past midnight in a petrol station, the papers were right there, but had been stacked up, presumably to be returned.

He point blank refused to let me buy one, and I waaaanted to. So had a bit of a toddler strop and called him a jobsworth twat. Whoops.

In my defence I had had a lot of wine, and really really wanted the paper.

YABU and really rude.

Papers are ready for returns - presumably with all paperwork filled in (citing exact numbers of papers being returned) all the garage's stuff filled in on their end, and trust me it can be a real pain to undo all that. They might have been expecting collection any minute.

And I hate the amount of people who think it is fair to shout and swear at staff only doing their job. Would you like others to do it at you.

All over a newspaper

Tortington · 29/09/2008 11:46

i hoped you had walked to petrol station or someone else was driving.

i assume a stock inventory or some such procedural process had taken place.

YABVU and rude, perhaps you should leave off the wine from sunday - friday.

HuwEdwards · 29/09/2008 11:46

DWP, yes of course you are unreasonable AND rude.

Don't suppose it was a big deal to him though, he probably thought 'She's pissed and aggressive, ah well'

"In my defence I had had a lot of wine, "
LOL - TDWP - hint: perhaps don't consider 'barrister' as your next career?

Have a Solapdeine and calm down!

georgiemum · 29/09/2008 11:48

Well - even I didn't yell at the man who tried to charge my 50p extra (in London)for Scotland on Sunday as it was a 'foreign newspaper'.

Was he reaching under the counter for the mace?

Chequers · 29/09/2008 11:52

Is this a serious question? Do you really not know the answer?

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 11:52

ha ha yes I hope you didn't drive in p*ssed as newt, demanding things that you are not allowed to have and then cussing like a blinder

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 11:53

I would have switched tack and offered him a fiver

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 11:54

At least you didn't punch him.. it'll be on CCTV

mayorquimby · 29/09/2008 11:54

you sounds like an absolute charmer.
yabu and sound like a pissed up housewife with a superiority complex who shouts and swears when she doesn't get her way.

Saturn74 · 29/09/2008 11:55

The man doesn't sounds like he was particularly stupid.

lulumama · 29/09/2008 11:56

YABU

toddler strop not acceptable once you are over the age of 3

he does not get paid enough to be called a jobsworth twat by a pissed, aggressive customer

download the newspaper

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 11:57

Aw that's a bit harsh.

handlemecarefully · 29/09/2008 11:58

YANBU, he sounds like an arse - but you should not have sworn. You loose moral upperhand immediately then

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 11:59

I get annoyed with systems too, it reminds me of that film when that guy flips in the traffic jam, is it gridlocked?

lulumama · 29/09/2008 11:59

if the tables were turned and the OP posted

' i was working late night shift in the petrol station, and just bundled up the papers to be returned, some pissed up and pissed off moody woman swore at me and threw a strop because i could not sell her a paper.. i felt really threatened and scared.. what should have i done?'

i think we would have all said how out of order it was..

being drunk and aggressive is not nice.

handlemecarefully · 29/09/2008 12:00

I hate it when people post end of. Gets my sap rising.

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 12:02

That's how I see myself. Like when I went to the shoe shop, knew exactly which shoe I want for my dd and knew the size and just want someone to get it. There are 20 staff doing nothing and I get told to pick a number and wait my turn ... number 96

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 12:04

beginning of!

Sycamoretree · 29/09/2008 12:05

YABU, I worked in a newspapers as a teenager - it's a lot more complicated than you think! Not worth his while more a measily 50p or whatever. Mostly they are sale or return anyway, so not much loss to him not to sell you one.

lulumama · 29/09/2008 12:06

sorry to offend you HMC

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 12:07

I think some people are getting carried away taking the moral highground we all get hacked off at times, life has become so unnessarily complex and bureaucratic and many of us feel overloaded, sometimes you just vent.. c'est la vie

rebelmum1 · 29/09/2008 12:08

sp v bad ..
