To think smoking should be BANNED???

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 17:27

Or it at least should be taken back into the pubs where it doesnt effect me, they cant all sit together in their deseise ridden smoke.

I am SOOO sick of walking behind someone who is smoking or walking through their putrid cloud of smoke, i hate it for my DS to, the smell makes me SICK, and i mean it actually makes me feel like i want to vomit!

Why cant smokers just realise how much they stink, you can smell a smoker a mile off.

I also hate how when someone speaks to you in the street, if they are smoking they will put their cigerette behind their back whilst talking to DS, like that stops him from breathing in you cancer fumes!!!

I think if someone is going to smoke they should at least do it where its not going to have an effect on anybody else (like in their own homes)

i dont think iabu, i think the smokers are v. much bu to expect everybody else to put up with their disgustingness - i think its v selfish.

um

yanbu about your point, i think smokers should be considerate and only smoke around other smokers and not in VERY public places like playgrounds or town centers

u r sounding a bit unreasonable

in the AIBU thread you should post calmly and reasonably or people just say yabu to piss you off

onager · 16/09/2008 20:47

not in VERY public places like playgrounds or town centers>>

But then someone will say "I come out of my house on a quiet side street and a smoker was passing by. It's not fair that they can smoke in quiet streets"

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 20:49

i know i was being unreasonable saying that it should be banned was just fed up of inhaling the smelly fumes but i think you are right about smokers smoking in selected area where thay can all get lung cancer together.
i might speak to my mp about that.

my mum smokes alot but she doesnt smoke around DS or in public areas through consideration for others.

OP posts:
onager · 16/09/2008 20:53

You are still being unreasonable. I have to put up with lots of smells I don't like. Get over it.

SilkCutMama · 16/09/2008 20:54

Oh for goodness sake - totally sick of smokers being bombarded with vitriol

Non-smokers wanted all smokers to smoke outside - they now do

What more do you want?

(I hasten to add that the MP's who voted in the smoking ban kept the House of Lords and the house of commons as fully smoking in their bars - bloody double standards)

Smokers now cannot smoke anywhere except outside, which they do

marlboroughqueen · 16/09/2008 20:57

Absolutely agree with you silkcut. fgs there are plenty of things people hate that others do, but we don't harp on all the time.

ethanchristopher · 16/09/2008 21:00

well to be fair

heroin users, cocaine users, cannabis, crack e.t.c

poor them with their addictions, they arent even aloud to do it

i dont think smokers can plead its an addiction and it not their fault cause nobody forced them at gunpoint to be addicted

however, i do agree that people need to decide what they want, personally i want to bring back smoking in clubs coz it PISSES ME OFF that it smells of BO now

gross

flourybaps · 16/09/2008 21:13

Clubs????

bloody hell, your adventurous, thought i was doing well just getting to the pub once a month.....

ethanchristopher · 16/09/2008 21:14

lol, the joys of being 15 (but looking 18) :D

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:14

i would prefere that it was kept in pub and clubs because then i wouldnt get it when walking past one!

OP posts:
Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:17

and plus i used to live pretty much in town at the time it changed, and it got so much noisier every weekend because ppl would stand outside with their cigerettes after being in a loud club shouting because they are too drunk to reaslise its not still noisy

"I don't eat chocolate on the scale that some people do, but that doesn't give me the right to call them big fat pigs, does it?"

I LOVE chocolate but don't eat it very much but when I do, I am quite happy to be called a fat pig

If you have vices (most of us do) then you have to expect the negative vibes that go with them.

If I did smoke (I don't), then IMO you expect to be called 'smelly smokers' (or less polite terms).

I am all for banning smoking around kids - save it for adult only places or your garden.

Yep, people have addictions - but how many smokers would WANT their kids to smoke?

onager · 16/09/2008 21:25

Hardly the same unless you have had someone say to you "she's eating chocolate. The fat pig. She shouldn't be allowed to be fat where we have to look at her. Fat people should be kept locked away out of sight"

I always seem to get behind the person in the queue who hasn't washed in a week. Being dirty doesn't even have the excuse of being an addiction.

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:28

exactly - i still havent lost my baby weight so im prepared to be called a fat pig too!

i really hope it is banned and made illegal before my son starts to get curious about these 'things' that xxx and xxx need sooo much, they must be good because you can see the bliss on their faces as they inhale the deadly toxins!

Sammyg81 · 16/09/2008 21:28

I smoke, but I don't do it aorund my children or anyone else's.

You're hardly getting passive smoking by people smoking outside??

What about when you're in town with you're children with buses, cars, motorbikes, all stuck in traffic chugging out fumes??

Also, what about all the bloody tax we pay? Do you have any idea how much your taxes would go up each year if they didn't get 80% of the money from cigs in taxes? although we might cost the NHS millions each yr from smoking related diseases, we actually give the NHS Billions in taxes (my doc friend has informed me).

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:31

but some people have bo problems, its not that they want to be smelly or even dont wash! i know someone that always smells when shes on and she hates it, and has tried everything to try and make it stop.

OP posts:
Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2008 21:33

lol at your name.

The future is written for you!

onager · 16/09/2008 21:34

Sammy you're right about the tax. We ought to all stop smoking on the same day just to see their faces when the huge emergency tax increase is announced

We could then say "ok we'll start again, but only if you say please!"

fryalot · 16/09/2008 21:37

oooh, is this an "AIBU? yes. fuck off then" thread? Oh it's been a while since I've seen once of these. Well, a day or two at least

I don't smoke.

YABU.

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:37

i also hate it when you see ppl who are living on benifits smoking, its so expensive, they could be spending that moeny on worthwile things not just putting it out in the ashtray.

Why do ppl who smoke always get defensive about smoking? and they will never admit that yes it does harm you, even if it is outside my opinion is any smoke my DS has to breathe in is unecessary and the people that dont go some where out of the way are inconsiderate.

i also hate it when you walk out of a shopping center and you walk through a cloud of smoke! why be so lazy as to not just walk a couple of steps away?

OP posts:
fryalot · 16/09/2008 21:40

worthwhile things?

It is everyone's right to spend their money on whatever they wish, be it 20 Marlborough lights, a bottle of whiskey, a couple of tins of dog food or a new Xbox game.

stillstanding · 16/09/2008 21:41

Can't bear smoking. Truly disgusting habit. But of course the OP is being unreasonable. Each to their own and all that.

But it must be each to their own. And when someone else's filthy habit affects my health or that of the DCs then it's not each to their own and it is certainly not reasonable.

Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2008 21:42

yes, MofOJ. Better things indeed. Crack for one. Or maybe just a good cart of red wine every night. God I am turning into Custy.

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 21:42

sorry if those to those ppl that think i am being unreasonale but im not going to change my opinion, will listen and appriciate that it is hard for those of you that just cant resist the temptations.
but above all my sons health comes first, i dont want him to have the choice to smoke, i honestly hope it will be banned. if he started he would have constant coughs and colds because it lowers your immune system and would stink, would have a lower lung capactiy and would get yellow teeth...etc

OP posts:
Monkeytrousers · 16/09/2008 21:44

If you haven't smoked, you don;t know. That speaking as an ex-smoker. Condemn others to make yourselves feel better if you must - that's far more toxic than the odd fag to me.
