To think smoking should be BANNED???

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 17:27

Or it at least should be taken back into the pubs where it doesnt effect me, they cant all sit together in their deseise ridden smoke.

I am SOOO sick of walking behind someone who is smoking or walking through their putrid cloud of smoke, i hate it for my DS to, the smell makes me SICK, and i mean it actually makes me feel like i want to vomit!

Why cant smokers just realise how much they stink, you can smell a smoker a mile off.

I also hate how when someone speaks to you in the street, if they are smoking they will put their cigerette behind their back whilst talking to DS, like that stops him from breathing in you cancer fumes!!!

I think if someone is going to smoke they should at least do it where its not going to have an effect on anybody else (like in their own homes)

i dont think iabu, i think the smokers are v. much bu to expect everybody else to put up with their disgustingness - i think its v selfish.

Stay At Home Mum, Floury.

wannaBe · 16/09/2008 18:04

wow.

I hate smoking. I think it's a vile and disgusting habbit and I don't buy the argument that they can't help being adicted - they didn't have to start. but...

If people want to kill themselves that's their lookout. and it's far better since smoking was banned in pubs etc, it's really not as bad out on the street - car fumes are much worse, and your ds is at the same height as the exhaust so is far more likely to be affected by car fumes than cigarette smoke.

So you don't smoke, you don't drink, and you think pubs teach people bad habbits?

So what do you do to relax then? Because tbh you sound very uptight.

I don't smoke or drink either, but I think pubs are fab - it is possible to go into one and only drink coke or orange juice you know? maybe you should get a hobby?

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 18:06

? i havent been around here long and dont know about the sahm debate.

2shoes if you read my other posts you will see i have alot more to think about at the moment so dont be so flippant when you havent even bothered to have a look.

i think you would find there are benefits to having ababysitter from time to time..just to give you a break especially being a single parent

flourybaps · 16/09/2008 18:10

thanks mmlove

I too am a sahm as my dd only 3 months and once a month i meet up with my girlfriends and go to the dreaded pub filled with glorious grown up people.

Sorry to harp on about the pub thing but i think hating pubs is ott. i understand the hating smoking thing, some people do.but think you certainly need to live and let live

i do partake in a silk cut myself at 7.30 with a large glass of red after a busy day slaving away being a sahm.

zippitippitoes · 16/09/2008 18:11

ok i just looked on that thread of support for young single mums to see if you were on it and who else was and was going to say why not join it

but

i see you did post on it and you have just split up with your partner so

all my sympathy for that you must be devastated

hope things pick up for you

Mum2OliverJames · 16/09/2008 18:12

ok as a compromise i say dont smoke in publis areas!
or just not around me, ill make a schedule of what i am going to be doing and where i am going to be at what times and post it on tinternet then all you smokers can make sure you avoid me all day!

i think that is a perfect reasonable solution

And as DH says no one goes home after 20 Marlboros and beats their wife!!

(I presume he means as apposed to 20 pints of stella!)

zippitippitoes · 16/09/2008 18:14

ps i dont smoke either

tho i was sorely tempted last week

MaureenMLove · 16/09/2008 18:16

I think you know you were a tad unreasonable now you've calmed down! I actually agree with you about the clouds of smoke you have to walk through in the street sometimes. I'm a smoker myself, but can easily go all day without having to stand in a huddle with my colleagues outside the school gate. (That hacks me off no end, actually!)

Appreciate you've had a bad day and probably didn't mean to sound so vicious?

pointydog · 16/09/2008 18:20

I like to catch a whiff of cigarette smoke as I walk past a puffer.

wannaBe · 16/09/2008 18:25

mum2oliverjames I have just read your other posts and would like to say two things:

(and I have the best of intentions)

Firstly, from your other posts it sounds as if you have a lot on your plate and could do with some time out. Why don't you get a babysitter and go out for an evening? Being at home all day, and in your case all night, with a young baby can be very draining, but sometimes it's hard to see it until you get away from it for a while.

Secondly, I'm guessing your mn nick relates to your ds' name? If so, I think that given that, plus the information you have already divulged about yourself, ie where you live, circumstances of your break-up coupled with your ds' name on your nick (esp as it presumably first and middle name) makes you very identifyable to people who might know you in rl. Given the nature of your break-up it's something you might want to think about?

ban it ban it ban it ban it
why should me and my children suffer just so people can feed their 'addiction'? or should people be able to snort coke on the high street now?

yeahyeah · 16/09/2008 19:29

What is yanbu?
I totally and utterly agree. IT is disgusting, by the time our kids are grown up it will be illegal.

OneLieIn · 16/09/2008 19:30

YABU, you could all move over to the non-smoking side of the street. They have banned it in public places, leave the poor smokers alone.

OneLieIn · 16/09/2008 19:32

Oh FFS, yummymummy, you and your children don't have to suffer if you chose to cross the street.

Coke is totally different and you know it.

lulumama · 16/09/2008 19:33

then cars should be banned too, yummymummy

nickytwotimes · 16/09/2008 19:33

Yabu, but I think you know that now, op, lol!

I'm an ex - smoker and don't give a toss where people smoke.

flourybaps · 16/09/2008 19:33

although i do like one silk cut with glass of wine in the privacy of my own back garden as mentioned prev i am v discreet and understand to an non smoker its just not nice to be smoked all over it is not ilegal whereas snorting a line of coke in the high is.........

flourybaps · 16/09/2008 19:36

in fact im off for said fag now, in fact have got my im a smoker get of me case head on now ill have two!!

onager · 16/09/2008 20:32

I'm lighting one up now and blowing it at the non smokers (only at the complaining ones)

I won't have a drink with it though. Filthy habit! Throwing up all over the place, crashing cars, yelling at kids, beating up wives. And the smell on people's breath. I don't think drinkers realise it you know.

blowsy · 16/09/2008 20:38

Obv smokers have a right to smoke if they want to. But I hate, HATE having to walk behind them esp if I'm with my dcs. I always try and get in front of them but even so - I still stink of their foul cancer sticks.

Smoke if you want but don't make me stink! I think there should be designated areas for smokers that are enclosed and away from those of us that unfortunately have to share the same air.

onager · 16/09/2008 20:42

Speak to your MP and say you don't like the law that says smokers must go outside.
