To think that PIZZA HUT should not serve up frozen raw chicken to my DC??

OMG - We went to Pizza Hut for a treat today. I noticed my DC (3)'s chicken looked raw, on further investigation both my DC chicken was like this - luckily they had'nt eaten much.

I would complain to environmental health if they can't even tell that chicken is still frozen!!!

Yes, we did and they staff were very apologetic. We refused to pay and made quite a fuss so other diners could hear us! I wish we had taken a sample - have a good mind to contact environmental health!!!

What do you expect if you eat in shitholes where they just warm up pre prepared food???

I hope you DC are ok. They could still get very ill even on a little bit of raw chicken.

We have often eaten i Pizza Hut and have never had any problems.

If it contained salmonella you might not know for 3-4 days after - but definitely report it asap.

Don't worry I'm sure they will be fine.

Moondog - that was a bit harsh and I agree with Batters. Whether you are eating at your local chippy or at a michelin starred restaurant, food safety should be guaranteed.

I hope the DC's are both ok Smileifyouwant. Let us know when you can what NHS Direct said

Thank you. They are ok at the moment - sleeping but NHS direct said that samonella would take 12/24 hours to kick in so we need to keep a close eye on them, they also said that even a small bit of raw chicken can make a child ill - in small percentage of cases really ill. Am worried.

Definitely contact environmental health - even without actually seeing the food they should go along and speak to the restaurant about it. And try not to worry too much - whether you get food poisoning or not depends on loads of things (how much was eaten, individual susceptibility etc) and I think that the chances of your DC picking something up are really small. NHS Direct are just telling you that because it is a possibility, however slight.

You should contact environmental health.

Was it frozen still or raw and partially defrosted?

Try not to worry too much it is not definite that they will get ill from it by any means and at least, if they do, you will know what is wrong and will catch it very early.

Well...if it has been frozen that has reduced the risk a fair bit, if it has only been out long enough for small pieces to start defrosting then it hasn't been out too long thus reducing the risk of new bacteria colonising it.

Yes, there are still risks but there always is with these things - if the chicken was properly cooked and had been in contact with raw chicken you would be none the wiser and still at risk.

If it makes you feel any better I have worked in PR for a very large foodservice company - we often got complaints of people eating raw or undercooked meat and NONE of them was ever ill from it - that surprised me quite a bit (I'm a microbiologist and have latterly worked in the food industry)

they served up half frozen spaghetti to my son some months ago and I got a ham and pineapple pizza with a slice of mushroom on it (one slice of mushroom can kill me as I am highly allergic) the waitress kindly took the spaghetti and pizza back and a few mins later came back with 'more'. on causing a ''scene'' I found they had just put the spaghetti into the microwave again to finish cooking and had simply removed the mushroom from my pizza and handed it back. the manager couldn't have cared less, walked out without paying after they handed me a bill, got in touch with their head office and they were less than helpful although I did get £15 of vouchers to go back there!!
environmental health were not interested as I did not have the half cooked/half frozen spaghetti as evidence and letting a slice of mushroom go on a pizza after someone has advised the staff they are highly allergic is not actually against any hygiene rules. never gone back, wish there was a deep pan pizza company place near here, never had a hint of problem from them
