I have just seen a thread (probaly can't find it again, I'm new and finding my way!!) but two people kept posting to each other along the lines of

"that's not what the OP asked why are you butting in"

and

"I can say what I like, it's a public forum! bla bla bla"

I'm a bit shocked - does that happen a lot?

Why don't people just stop posting? It seems so silly!

PS Not sure how long I'll last here but I am having a fun time so far!! :D

FAQ · 21/08/2008 12:30

because if that never happened there would be no threads longer than about 20 posts

and oh shit - I've just turned round to see DS3 crawling across the dining table

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/08/2008 12:30

Welcome to the vipers' nest Mumsnet!

Lots of robust conversation and argument here, but also lots of lovely people and fabulous support when and if it's needed.

MmeLindt · 21/08/2008 12:31

Oh, dear. You are going to have to get used to people arguing if you stick around MN, it happens a lot.

MNetters are not happy unless they are arguing having a reasoned discussion

expatinscotland · 21/08/2008 12:32

if you're looking for hugz, huns, unconditional 'support' (read: agreeing totally) or mods on a powertrip chastising the kids to 'stay on topic', then this is the wrong board for you.

basically, you need to have a thick skin to post on here because it's the same as putting your post on a sandwich board and walking round Trafalgar Square at lunchtime: if you put it out there, you may not only hear things you want to hear.

QuintessentialShadows · 21/08/2008 12:34

Yeah, we are all a bunch of argumentative bitches.

No. not really. not all the time.

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/08/2008 12:35

Oh yes we are.

QuintessentialShadows · 21/08/2008 12:36

NO WE ARE NOT

Lol

FAQ · 21/08/2008 12:36

YES WE ARE

QuintessentialShadows · 21/08/2008 12:38

OH, I give up, you are so mean, I will never come here again!

TsarChasm · 21/08/2008 12:40

Now now

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/08/2008 12:41

You will get used to it, before you know it you will be arguing getting involved in strong debates, with the best of us

wasabipeanut · 21/08/2008 12:45

Oh its half the fun. Really.

theirmum · 21/08/2008 12:50

lol bless you you will get used to it is the whole fun of Mumsnet But believe me if your in trouble us girls stick together the lady you were arguing having a heated debate with yesterday will be trying to help the best she can! WELCOME

thishappenedtome · 21/08/2008 12:53

I know which thread you mean. I saw the little argument lastnight and thoght it was a bit uneccessary as it took the discussion really far away from what the OP was asking. However the subsequent conversation this morning was fair enough I think, but then maybe that's because I was in teh middle of it

but yes YANBU - sometimes people should walk away!

pagwatch · 21/08/2008 12:53

because some of the people on here are really stupid and you have to shout at them a lot before they realise that you were right about everything all along. And always have been. Of course.
Just agree with me about everything and you will be fine.

Is that a yes?
Come on !

K8y · 21/08/2008 12:56

Thank you!!

I actually feel quite warm and fuzzy. This stuff is really good to know!

Ok. Thick skin might possibly be the best advice. I will take that on board.

I do think I might enjoy this online lark!!

Thick skin = very good idea.

No huns (except ironic ones)
No txt spk - ever!

And look out for Cod (she's on holiday at the moment), sometimes posts as iCod (and a million and one other Cod-related names). You will recognise her posts as they look something like this:

lkoo uto fro oCd

She can spell, just can't type.

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 14:52

People will always find something to argue about.

BIWI, Why look out for Cod?

theirmum · 21/08/2008 14:54

You would have thought that the amount of posts cod does she would have improved her typing skills lol! VS how is your lovely baby?

VictorianSqualor · 21/08/2008 14:57

Delightful and able to live off about four hours sleep a day
How are feeling now?

ilovemydog · 21/08/2008 15:04

vs - mine is the same...

How do they do it?

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/08/2008 15:05

I didn't mean 'look out for' in the sense of 'beware of'!

I just wanted to point out that contrary to what most newbies think and then go on to post, she can spell. It's just the typing that she has a problem with.

QuintessentialShadows · 21/08/2008 15:06

It is a typical newbie thing to post a thread "Hey what is the matter with Cod?" or "Y U all h8 txtspk, but love COD??" sort of thing.
