MIL has picked to wear a WHITE DRESS at my wedding.

She has done everything she can to irritate me and caused loads of problems for our wedding.

Then when we got our son christened she wasn't centre of attention so she sat there with a face on her, sent her H over to have a go at me, was annoyed that my mum had held the baby more than her even though my mum made an effort to pay for the christening unexpectedly, come over and hold the baby, and take him round to see other people so they could hold her. MIL didn't even come over to see him and went mad that we didn't take him over. Then she left early with SIL's DP's parents to go to another pub.

Now she has minded the baby the other day, purposely doesn't listen to what I tell her to do with him- didn't even give him his medicine, because she wants to be his mum because she's infertile now.

When I went to pick him up she got all excited and showed me a pic of the dress she's getting for my wedding. It is white and floaty.

No one should wear white to a wedding but she's obviously doing it on purpose to be centre of attention.

I didn't take the baby to see her much when he'd just been born as I wanted us to spend the first week as a family. She has slagged me off a lot and been really awkward over this.

It's like she's hideously jealous of me.

She even copies my hairstyles and colours everytime I get it done and she dresses young and tries to relive her youth.

So AIBU? I wouldn't wear a white dress to someone's wedding.

lol Dittany- it would be good if others got the jist.

I wonder if she's said it just to irritate the hell out of me.. and then she'll turn up in red or something?

Tenacious- I totally agree!! But then in a way she will look like a tit for doing it.

I wore a white outfit to a wedding - I did check with the bride that it was ok before I took the tags off it though

ruty · 13/08/2008 13:44

yes i really don't get why only the bride should wear white. the whole thing is a throwback to the kind of age in which a woman belonged to a man in marriage, and thus wore something that signified she was a virgin. Quite frankly anything that gave me brownie points with my MIL is worth doing, IMO.
That said, yours does sound like a nightmare the rest of the time.

Iamnotbridezilla · 13/08/2008 13:45

I think it's just respectful not to wear white to a wedding in a way.

mind you i wore an old summer dress for my wedding and we all went to the pub for lunch afterwards so i'm not really the best person to ask

AlistairSim · 13/08/2008 13:47

Hubba hubba at the cleavage, DDF.

Although slightly disappointed that you don't look like Michael Keaton.

Dropdeadfred · 13/08/2008 13:48

WHY???? Rick Mayall played DropdeadFred.

AlistairSim · 13/08/2008 13:54

Oh, that's ok then because you're the spitting image!

BlingLovin · 13/08/2008 14:01

DDF - I think that's the dress I'm planning to wear? It looks similar - hard to tell. Is it a Ellis Bridal dress? Beautiful - love the beading.

Dropdeadfred · 13/08/2008 14:01

You're right!!!

Dropdeadfred · 13/08/2008 14:02

No Bling..it's Alfred Angelo 1136.

AlistairSim · 13/08/2008 14:02

Spooky, isn't it?

Iamnotbridezilla · 13/08/2008 14:05

Ooo mine's Alfred Angelo too.

BlingLovin · 13/08/2008 14:07

That's actually strange - it really is very very similar - love both! .
I'm looking at
www.ellisbridals.co.uk/collections.html and it's dress 11022 (under classic).

Dropdeadfred · 13/08/2008 14:10

Yes they do loo similar...maggie Sottero has a new dress out called Adelaide which is equally as beautiful

cheshirekitty · 13/08/2008 16:19

I have a cunning plan......

Phone every female guest going to your wedding and ask them to wear white.

You wear a lovely crimson red, deep blue or any other gorgous colour.

Would love to see mils face.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 13/08/2008 16:23

Wouldn't it be terrible if the ink from the fountain pen would spring a leak when it came to the signing of the registry?

cocolepew · 13/08/2008 16:34

My MIL wore white to my wedding, it backfired on her as I wore pink .
She also sobbed through the whole thing crying 'oh my son! My baby boy!' DH turned and very loudly said 'it's not my funeral. Shut up.'

branflake81 · 13/08/2008 17:31

I'm sorry but you ARE a Bridezilla.

Who cares?

Let her wear what she wants . Life's too short.

Peachy · 13/08/2008 17:38

Well, My MIL wore m ourning if that makes you feel better LOl (and stprmed out with menopausal problems even though her menpause was a decade before, to reappear during speeches expecting to get loads of attention... except she didnt know we did the speeches before the meal LOL and everybosy knew what she was up to so ignored her)

I have it on a video my friend made and sent her before I saw it..... my Dh's rather posh and adored by MIL Aunt commenting it was just MIL wanting to be centre of attention pmsl

But no she shouldn't wear white, tell her you will buy her a dylon clothes dye if it will ehlp
