MIL is in a rest home. Nice little place, quite impressed so far. But they have a cat, and I don't like it going into her room. I think it's unhygenic to have cat hair about the place, with delicate lungs and general elderly ill-health. I've asked them to keep it out of there or get rid of it. They have refused.

YABU. Cats are not unhygenic and won't affect anyones health unless they are allergic to cats.

SlartyBartFast · 05/08/2008 22:01

well i worked in a residential home, and on a weekly basis someone would bring in a dog, for the old dears to pet and stroke, there is a whole business out there in Pets in Homes, stroking a pet, as mentioned already is therapeutic, good for the heart and cheers people up.

Elasticwoman · 05/08/2008 22:03

Thank you for continuing to express yourself in a polite and civilised way, OP, even though I don't actually agree that a cat is a bad thing in your MIL's room, if it doesn't upset her. The elderly have few enough pleasures in life, and by their age are more concerned with quality than quantity of time they have left.

falcon · 05/08/2008 22:17

YABU. Remind me again, who lives in the home your or your MIL?

tweeni · 05/08/2008 22:21

bizarre first post if you are not a troll

falcon · 05/08/2008 22:21

That would be you.

I'd be ever so grateful for an edit button.

wannaBe · 05/08/2008 22:22

I am sitting here typing with a parrot on my shoulder.

mmm how unhygienic is that?

Oh and I have a budgie in my lounge.

and two cats... somewhere

and a couple of dogs too...

I don't have any trolls as pets though.

lucyellensmum · 05/08/2008 22:24

hottoddy, you don't strike me as the sort of person who would upset easily. I was EXTREMELY upset by your post and the last thing i enjoy is a bunfight FGS.

Just tell me, were you being serious? If so, be reassured that the cat will be of no threat to anyones health so long as it doesnt have worms

wannaBe · 05/08/2008 22:26

I've never come across this opposition to animals in rl.

I've come across the occasional taxi driver who, due to "cultural differences" has refusedto carry my guide dog. luckily for me the law is on my side though.

wannaBe · 05/08/2008 22:29

I would just ignore her lem. Really she's not worth your upset.

Just wish upon her that she comes back as a cat in a future life .

ladymariner · 05/08/2008 22:51

LEM, I'm right with you on this one, please don't be upset by this troll op, you are totally right in what you are saying.
Pets give a lot of joy and happiness to people, something that seems to be sadly lacking in some areas!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/08/2008 00:10

If she can't stroke her pussy in her own bed, what other joys are left open to her?

HotTrouserCough · 06/08/2008 00:15

Dont all care homes have a pet of some sort??
I have worked in a few .

EyeballsintheSky · 06/08/2008 00:27

DH's 95yo grandmother is in a home... I hope you all realise what images you've put in my head!

And I thought she sat and read James Herriot all day...

Ambi · 06/08/2008 00:39

it's only a cat, build a bridge and get over it (or under it as the case may be).

at least there'll be less mice around?
