Got married 6 months ago. Been to a few friends' weddings this summer and so far get really annoyed at myself when instead of focusing on the bride and groom's happiness I find myself momentarily lapsing and considering minor details like entrance music, orders of service, dress etc and thinking "ours was nicer". Does this make me a terrible person or is it natural? I suppose it's a good job that I liked my own wedding!

If you think it's a "wanky thread" why make a negative comment. Move on yourself.

Each to their own.

'If you think it's a "wanky thread" why make a negative comment. Move on yourself.'

Because she asked for peoples' opinions, and this is where we get to give them.

Welcome to MN! Hope you enjoy your flight.

i love weddings, i can cry on cue.should hire me out as the crying instigator

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 21:00

Bolleaux, cod, I'm not desperate to get home at weddings, I'm desperate for a glass of champers before putting in my drinks order.

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 21:01

I cry, too, SM.

ScottishMummy · 27/07/2008 21:02

we could sit together and wail and howl like twa high-doe wimmin

scottishmum007 · 27/07/2008 21:03

i can't really stand weddings to be honest, i think it's all superficial crap. it was the certificate that i felt was the most important part of it. DH and I have similar views on weddings, and didn't want a big fuss at our own. we couldn't care less whether people liked it or not and I wouldn't say our wedding was the best compared to others we've been to since. we went through the motions.

nooka · 27/07/2008 21:03

Hang on a moment, moulefrites said she momentarily compares the wedding she is at to her own wedding, which was only 6 months ago. Why is that wanky? Are people really supposed to be thinking of "the bride and groom" for the entire wedding? I think it highly unlikely anyone does that - people's minds do wander...

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 21:04

It's a deal! I'll bring the whisky, SM.

We can have a nip or two between sobs.

DH will roll his eyes and whisper, 'I canny believe yer greetin' over this!'

pointydog · 27/07/2008 21:05

it's natural, I think, but very tedious

Snaf · 27/07/2008 21:05

All weddings are tedious until the bar opens.

ScottishMummy · 27/07/2008 21:05

the op is so wanky you need a tissue for the flob.

competitive and shallow
mine was nicer -nah nah nah

pointydog · 27/07/2008 21:05

my sister got married recently and the way she's talked of other weddings made me think that she thinks along these lines

expat - the bat!

edam · 27/07/2008 21:07

It's fine to have secret thoughts you don't share with the other guests. And of course your wedding was better in your eyes, you chose all the things you wanted!

As it happens, I was at a wedding last week and one of the other guests told me (quietly!) 'yours was better'.

ScottishMummy · 27/07/2008 21:07

yeah copious alcohol should do it

chipmonkey · 27/07/2008 21:07

LOL at this thread, moulesfrites! Go on, admit it, though, you were Bridezilla, weren't you?

We only had sex in the market square because we were young and needed the money.

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 27/07/2008 21:09

I'd be scared to get married, knowing everybody was rating it and comparing it to their own lavish tasteful do!

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 21:09

ach, my sister's was the BEST wedding!

some of the other dad's got revenge on my dad by getting him to drink tequila shots.

he then allowed the bar to remain open even longer!

he also fell out of the limo in our driveway and ripped his tuxedo trousers.

when he sobered up, he found an additional $3000 added to the bar tab.

and he had to take my mum to Vegas as she was furious at him since he'd agreed to wait till the house party after the reception to get drunk.

he also had to buy some new tux trousers.
