sexy, well am I? i was waiting at a bus stop today and heard a mother call her baby son "sexy", as in "come here sexy man". It suddenly occurred to me how much i hear this and how much it irritates me. It just doesn't seem right to refer to your child as sexy.

AIBU?

I really hate it too. My girls have been called sexy legs, sexy lady and similar. I think it's vile. They are not sexy, they are little girls.

Gorgeous, scrummy, cute, adorable, pretty, cuddly, all descriptors except those that insinuate sex are fine.

AbbeyA · 24/07/2008 18:03

YANBU -it is inappropriate.

morethanyoubargainfor · 24/07/2008 18:07

Oh i am glad that i am not the only one who finds it hideious! Alot of Mum's use it around here and no sense of irony is used. It is considered a term of enderement(sp?).

Gorgeous and beatiful are totally different things, youm would use those words to describe other items, like your enviroment or a good friend prehaps, but sexy is only ever used to describe others, usually the ones you find attrative. IYKWIM.

I did tell a woman in Asda the other week that her little boy who had got himself into a stew ( because of a misunderstanding with his Dad) was actually being very well behaved, despite her attempts to belittle and goad him into kicking off again. He was standing by her side as she packed her shopping, sobbing quietly.

I had followed the family around the shop as they were just infront of me, and the poor little kid was so upset. They just kept saying 'Everyones looking at you.Everyone thinks you're stupid.' To which he replied 'Shut up!' and the Mum said he was going to bed straight away. They were almost enjoying teasing him and riling him up.

scottishmum007 · 24/07/2008 18:36

never heard any mum say that about their son, but YANBU. I think that's just plain wrong. Yuk.

Ooh there are some good threads on tonight.
YA totally NBU - a friends calls my daughter and hers 'sexy lady' and it amazes me.
On a slightly related note, DP called DD 'babes' once or twice when she was tiny. I had to ask him to stop as he sounded like a Big Brother contestant.

lucyellensmum · 24/07/2008 20:17

i say that about horses, oooh hes sooo sexy and i can promise you, i dont mean it in that way. I may have said it about DD a few times but not sure. I always used to say it about my dog, cos he was the most handsome creature to ever walk the earth.

wittyusername · 24/07/2008 20:21

Yikes. No would never refer to a child with the word 'sexy'.

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 20:49

Yuk.

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 24/07/2008 20:51

Gross. Not an appropriate adjective for a child.
