in thinking my 16 year old son has taken teen rebellion way too far?

I can put up with piercings and tattoos(hasn't had them done yet, but they are on the cards) heavy metal music, wearing black all the time, just take it in my stride.
but today he has taken it too far and I am shocked and worried. he told me today that he likes coldplay
At the moment it is only a couple of their songs.
but AIBU it be scared that this is the start of a terrible time. will he now become a fan?
will he start liking Kylie.

Did you not smack him enough as a baby, did you praise him too much, did you not force him to play a musical instrument he hated?
