We are visiting my dh's parents at the weekend, as it's his birthday.

Dh's brother and family live about 15 mins away from his parents. We are staying over at his parents....and the brother has said he and his Mrs and 2 kids are staying over too.

Here's whats sticking in my craw...
They live 15 mins away.
There is no room. They will be on blow up beds. WHY????
We never see the grandparents...the grandparents childmind his kids twice a week all day.

I'm grumpy and I want a moan. Please tell me I'm not just being a grouch.

smallwhitecat ,away with you. You should know on AIBU threads, only those who agree and are grouchy can post

I'm feeling more cheerful already. This is great therapy.

Do they want to have a drink? Make them pay for a taxi if so, tight gits.

cocolepew · 03/07/2008 18:27

No, changed my mind, YABU.

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:28

Oh bog off.

OverMyDeadBody · 03/07/2008 18:28

um....yabu.

My parents live 15 minutes away by car. A few of my siblings live quite far away and when they come to visit my parents I often go too with DS, to see everyone, and decide to stay for the weekend. Yes DS and I sleep on the sofas but no one cares, it means we can have a family weekend, I get to stay rather than having to go home and miss all the late night fun, and we're there in the morning too.

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/07/2008 18:29

Well if they're on blow up beds, rather than you, what's the problem?

Perhaps they are thinking that it would be lovely for all the family to be together?

And they may want to be able to have a drink to celebrate your dh's birthday and not have to worry about driving?

Sorry, but I think YABU without more information!

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:30

I think its the 'you never see my children...they could have some quality time with you..but the other grandchildren will be there too'

I'm really an old bag, aren't I.

I've been in the sun all day at Sports Day, and lost the plot.

Bit weird - they should get a taxi if they're up for a sesh.

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:30

TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE DISAGREEING WITH ME.

OP posts:
maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:31

Oh, its not for the drinking. And its not about who sleeps where. Its me wanting my kids to see their grandparents alone FOR ONCE.

I'm a old trout.

Yes you are.

You're right, this is very theraputic.

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:33

Yes smallwhite I'm sure they do. And despite my tone, I really am very fond of them all. We just want some time and space with the g'parents, not to relive episode 325 of The Waltons.

I've had to be nice to people all day. This feels good to have a moan.

Perhaps they want to put the DCs to bed and have an adult evening with a drink. The alternatives are to go home early, have DCs up late,or take DCs home and have a babysitter and come back. Perhaps they think it will be fun for all cousins to have a sleepover together.

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:35

From family experience, the 'ladies' will be left at home while 'the men' go for a pint.

catinthehat · 03/07/2008 18:36

You know what, I think they're all looking forward to seeing you & your family. There's a strong chance YABU!

LittleMissTickles · 03/07/2008 18:36

YANBU

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:38

yes catinthehat I know I am. But I'm sooo enjoying griping about it to you lot.

My dh poo-poo's my theories on the subject. He's no fun!!

OP posts:
beaniesteve · 03/07/2008 18:42

Maybe they want to spend some time together as a family, have a drink etc?

maidamess · 03/07/2008 18:46
