We are visiting my dh's parents at the weekend, as it's his birthday.

Dh's brother and family live about 15 mins away from his parents. We are staying over at his parents....and the brother has said he and his Mrs and 2 kids are staying over too.

Here's whats sticking in my craw...
They live 15 mins away.
There is no room. They will be on blow up beds. WHY????
We never see the grandparents...the grandparents childmind his kids twice a week all day.

I'm grumpy and I want a moan. Please tell me I'm not just being a grouch.

SIL and family have been known to do this when we stay at PIL's. They live half a mile away from them. I feel similarly about our children not getting to see the grandparents by themselves, so yanbu in my opinion! B ut I'm grouchy too.

are they staying for 1 night or the whole time you are there

2point4kids · 03/07/2008 19:10

Oh god, we do this! Never dreamed it might look odd!

In laws live 20 mins from us. Both SIL's live much further away. In laws have massive house.
When SIl's visit for weekend, we usually go and stay too.

Saves the SIL's from trekking over to see us as well if we are all in the same house (I am assuming your DH does want to see his brother and neices and nephews?)
Plus it means we can put kids to bed there and have a nice evening catching up with all the adults over dinner and a few drinks.

I like you Mrs flowerpot.

I do like spending time with family, I really do.

But if it was me, and I lived that close, and I saw those g'parents every day almost, I would 'step back'. And come over for the day, not spend the night and clutter up the place.

Different strokes for different folks and all that....

And 2point, when you say it it does sound reasonable!

My mum is one of 8 kids and we lived furthest from my GPs. Yet, whenever we went to stay there was always a houseful of cousins who all lived nearby (and it was nice to see them) but I know my mum had those same feelings of just for once, wanting to have her kids spend some 'exclusive' time with her folks.

So,that's a very waffly way of saying YANBU.
