To want to slap stupid people on their sunburnt shoulders?

Who wants to look like a boiled lobster, anyway?

I can't believe how many morons there are wandering around with crimson arms and shoulders with big ol' white strap marks.

Soooooooooo attractive.

I just wince and go, "SSSSSSSSSSS" - you know, that intake of breath when you see something that must hurt.

I think people really underestimate the power of the sun. I did and now have lovely brown marks on my face. Great.

avenanap · 02/07/2008 17:00

Poor people. Maybe they forgot to slap the sunblock on. I think alot of us have done this. The last thing someone wants when they have been burned is to have clothing on as it is more painful.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 02/07/2008 17:02

Save your sympathy.

These twunts sit in the park all day waiting to turn a different colour.

What about beautiful bronzed people, do you want to slap them too?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 02/07/2008 17:04

Yup.

I still have sympathy because in 10 years time they will have a mole that will change. They will go and see their GP and be told they have skin cancer. This is sad for them as it is something they will not be able to change and they will know that they have caused this. This is sad.

Blimey your name fits you well op

DontCallMeBaby · 02/07/2008 17:07

The sun seeks out any unprotected bit of my and burns it, it is evil. I've had a sunburned chin that way, and the backs of my ears. I don't know how it manages to be so specific.

cardy · 02/07/2008 17:07

I detect a note of towards the beautiful bronzed people....they have lovely olive skin that tans well, lucky them! Or else have a very well done false tan....nothing wrong with that!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 02/07/2008 17:07

Of course it's sad, I'm not saying people diagnosed with cancer is not sad. There is a wealth of information, FGS we are continually reminded of the dangers. I am just amazed at the vast amounts of people who ignore it.

I know lots of people get caught out in the sun, but what about the vast legions who lay out and fry as soon as it appears? Or is that just restricted to people who live near me, because there were loads of them in town yesterday.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 02/07/2008 17:11

Envy is not the root of my disagreement - I turn very brown, but apart from feeling like a throwback to the seventies where nowt but a walnut tan was considered attractive, I have no desire to cook myself, especially to that totally unprotected crimson hue and can't believe that people still do - knowing the facts as we now do.

Most folk I know just want to be affected by the sun, red will do fine for them so long as they have changed colour.
I find it weird. Both DD and I don't burn but we still slap on the factor 25.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 02/07/2008 17:14

At last, someone who knows what I mean!

avenanap · 02/07/2008 17:14

It's like smoking. People don't realise that it damages them until several years down the line, normally when it's too late. We all make choices on how to live our life. Some choices are good, some are not so good. Just because we are able to see the damage they are doing to themselves it doesn't mean that we are any better or more enlightened then they are. They ignore the advice, which is their choice. You shouldn't criticise them for this though. In a few years time they will be suffering enough. I find this sad.

themildmannneredjanitor · 02/07/2008 17:14

i lathered myself in factor 20 yesterday-was out for about 2 hours and still got burnt.

i triiiieeedddd.

newforold · 02/07/2008 17:18

Not everyone who gets burnt develops skin cancer.
Not everyone gets intentionally burnt.
Would you like to dare to slap me after i got burnt on the top of my head the other day after putting sun screen on?

Please feel free to try it. I think you might find i'd slap you back a lot harder though.

TheChicken · 02/07/2008 17:18

TheChicken · 02/07/2008 17:18

emj23 · 02/07/2008 17:29

I saw a man in Greece who had clearly fallen asleep in the sun without any lotion on. He was purple. It looked bloody painful. He had burned his legs so badly he couldn't let them touch so he couldn't walk normally, he looked like a human croquet hoop.

Divvy · 02/07/2008 17:32

You can come a slap dh if you want!

I went for afternoon nap with toddler yesterday, he said I am going to lay in the garden for a bit then.

I said "dont fall alseep out there, else you will burn"

I got up an hour later, woke the twonk up. It didnt look too bad till a few hours later.....silly fecker never listens to me!

brightongirldownunder · 03/07/2008 13:14

Over here if you look like you're turning red, someone instantaneously comes over and suggests you cover up. Saying that the suns a lot more dangerous in Oz.
Red is seriously not cool especially on bald men.
Newforold try wearing a hat!

BouncingTurtle · 03/07/2008 13:24

Don't forget in this country we're so shocked to be a bit of sun that we do get carried away...
I got sunburn on a picnic recently, happily my baby didn't - was too busy making sure he was covered up and protect that I forgot myself

MrsMattie · 03/07/2008 13:26

I forgive people getting sunburned. OK, fine, you got caught out maybe. It happens. But those idiots who go out exposing their sunburnt bits to more sun. WTF? I saw a woman in a vest top at the weekend with severe sunburn obviously inflicted the day before because the strap marks were different. Burns on your burns?! Thicko!

brightongirldownunder · 03/07/2008 13:29

Turtle - know what you mean!
