Just got a complaint from my neighbour for putting on a wash that finished 5 minutes ago.

AIBU to think that 9pm is a reasonable cut off point?

Neighbor is being a whinge.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 31/10/2026 20:25

Yanbu that’s completely fine. Is the noise really loud for her or something? I’d want to put a wash on whenever I felt like it in my own house but it affected next year then yes before 9pm is totally fine

Timeforachange26 · 31/10/2026 20:26

Sod all wrong with that

MeowDoku · 31/10/2026 20:26

That's ridiculous it's a perfectly fine time, I put mine on a timer so it starts at 4:30am finished by 6:30am and I hang it up when I get up shortly after

chattyness · 31/10/2026 20:26

YANBU like you I think 9pm would be late enough and wouldn't do any after that time unless it was an emergency.

tomorrowfollowstoday · 31/10/2026 20:27

No apology required.

Auroraloves · 31/10/2026 20:27

Neighbour is being unreasonable.

SweatySpider321 · 31/10/2026 20:28

Ignore as you aren’t unreasonable.

thistimelastweek · 31/10/2026 20:29

How loud is your washing machine to be heard next door?
Or does it vibrate through walls?
Either way, I'd try to be considerate.

DoubleBusy2026 · 31/10/2026 20:29

Oh god this reminds me of my ex neighbour who I think had dementia. She once came RUNNING into my house shouting at me in Celtic(?) because I had my hairdryer on after 6pm!

GettingThereEveryDay · 31/10/2026 20:37

@thistimelastweek The spin cycle finished by 8.20 pm. I mean I get that it’s the weekend but I think I am being considerate by finishing before 9pm

Is it a next door neighbour or are you in a flat? (Up to 10pm would still be fine IMO)

Earheads · 31/10/2026 20:41

Completely unreasonable.
I wouldn't be entertaining that at all.

Growlybear83 · 31/10/2026 20:43

I wouldn’t consider any time before 11 to be too late to do something like a load of washing. Your neighbour is bonkers .

EmeraldRoulette · 31/10/2026 20:45

In flats?

My previous place tried to have rules/suggestions about this. Even then it was 11 pm.

Seriously?.
You think intrusive noise from your neighbours at 11.00pm is ok?

hotmumshit · 31/10/2026 20:47

Yanbu totally fine x

21ZIGGY · 31/10/2026 20:56

They can be as annoyed as they want, but you can do your washing anytime you like

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 31/10/2026 21:00

I get home from work at 9pm if my uniform needs washing it'll be finished about 11pm. Neighbours can dislike it all they like but I can't do anything about it.

Bushmillsbabe · 31/10/2026 21:05

As long as it's not vibrating against a shared wall, then shouldn't even be able to really hear a washing machine outside of a property? Or are you in a flat and neighbour is below you. If your machine as so loud it's disturbing your neighbour then maybe an issue with your machine?

GloriousGoosebumps · 31/10/2026 21:07

Is the issue that your kitchen shares a party wall with her sitting room? If it's the more usual arrangement of adjoining kitchens then I can't see why she's unhappy. In any event, I think that you should compromise if you can, in which case you're probably going to have to ask her to explain.

How the fuck is a washing machine doing a cycle “intrusive noise”?

If it's annoying people next door it is.
That's my point.
How loud or shaky is this machine?

Rituelec · 31/10/2026 21:16

I do mine after 10pm regularly

So do I.
But no-one next door can hear or feel it.
