Cant get a bus down Oxford Street
Crime hasn't gone anywhere, only the phone bike thieves due to international outcry
Housing still a mess

I am a lifelong leftie, but I am not voting the current mayor in again.

It might take OP longer than 5 mins, tbf. When my husband could still walk a five minute walk for me could be 20 mins for him.

I don't agree with OP about Khan.

Thanks for being kind in your reply, appreciate it x

That’s fine for you to think that.
You’re right that I don’t post very much on Mumsnet, but as this is something I deal with in my job, I thought I’d share my perspective.
This job has genuinely opened my eyes and I find it frustrating that some of the things I see don’t seem to get the wider media attention I think they warrant, beyond local news.
I don’t believe it’s all down to Sadiq Khan. I think a lot of the factors influencing crime are outside his control and crime may well have increased under whichever mayor was in office.
My issue is that I don’t think the picture Sadiq Khan tries to portray accurately reflects what’s happening. You can point to figures showing crime has gone down, but that doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. I find it frustrating when the narrative he presents to the public doesn’t seem to reflect the reality of what I’m seeing.

I'd like you to show me the politician or political party that's genuinely even, in the history of history, been transparent about crime statistics with no agenda?

And to the OP, yes, I'll be happy to vote for him again. While I don't think he's perfect, I think overall he's doing a good job.

@Itsthepatriachy ”It all boils down to their contrived hysteria around “Shakira law”

Best typo EVER 😂😂😂😂

Hips don’t lie under Shakira law, right? 💃🏽 the eye witnesses were confused, the DNA was contaminated but the hips did not lie! No sir!

editing to add - no fightin’

Selfridgrs is in the middle of Oxford street, I dont know what you're saying.

As others have told you, only a small section of Oxford Street has been pedestrianised.

It runs from Orchard Street to Great Portland Street.

Selfridges is at Orchard Street.

Did you actually look into any of this or just look to start a thread to bash our mayor and criticise “lefties”?

Sadiq Khan has not got a grip on crime! Some figures might have gone down, but when you see your local Tesco extra or coop being targeted time and time again by brazen shoplifters and insane amount of car thefts happening , the figures don’t resonate! Khan has killed London nightlife!

Remind me to tell my London-based DD and DS that the late night events they go to don't actually exist.

It’s also right at the end of the pedestrian area.

I am a leftie and a londoner.

Selfridges the entrance is on Oxford Street

I take the bus there each time I need to go there. I cannot do that now.

Khan has killed London nightlife!

Meaning? Granted, my clubbing days are behind me, but every gig, play, movie and restaurant seems to be mobbed pretty much every night of the week. No part of London is noticeably dead at night. Try getting a booking at a 'hot' restaurant with less than two weeks notice. We went to Hon's in Hackney Wick a few weeks ago with friends and walking down the street was like elbowing your way through a Taylor Swift concert. And my kids, whose clubbing days aren't behind them, seem to find plenty of nightlife when they're back from uni.

You think Selfridges has just one entrance?

Have you actually been to Selfridges?

The entrance that I take, close to the perfume hall and then the escalators, to the cafe, a walk i know well

Is reached by taking the bus to outside the entrance. The electric bus that doesn't harm the planet anyway

CozItsHotOut · Yesterday 22:05

I already said - there are at least two other accessible entrances to Selfridges - Duke St and another one (I can’t recall street name but it’ll be on the website).

Okay. I am genuinely sick of the way things are but didnt want a right wing thread.

ah, its the usual dress up in the other army's uniform and fire bullets at his unit and exclaim I'm not shooting you, bro

Selfridges has many entrances. The pedestrianised section starts at Selfridges. You may have to walk 100m or so to get to the entrance you prefer but there will be closer entrances to the bus stop.

Orchard Street. Fully accessible entrance, the 2, 13 and 74 bus routes all stop there (I just looked it up).

I mean you’ve spent ages ranting about not being able to go where you want on Oxford street but not actually looked up what section of Oxford street will be closed and how the buses will be re-routed.

It’s hard not to see your thread otherwise.

I have no issue with Khan and have not been presented with a better option.

Crime is down and I don’t care about part of Oxford Street being pedestrianised.

Is selfridges the kinda shop that anyone 'needs' to shop at

I think the thing is that sometimes there are decisions where the greater good, in this instance revitalising Oxford Street, matter more than the individual good. I'd prefer not to have a massive bunch of flats built right near my house. It will massively inconvenience me both during the build, and after, when too many people are cramming into local schools and surgeries. But I know London desperately needs housing, so I'm accepting that while I don't particularly like it, it's more important than my personal convenience.

are you aware of NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming

Please don't hesitate to call me back

I will leave this here for you to add your own strike through, if you wish

Oxford street has gone to shit because good quality shops cant afford the rent - now we're left with candy shops of dubious means

Pedestrianised wont change that. But it will keep people out who love to visit but cant manage the walk.

So sometimes yes we need to sacrifice. But living next to flats and being forced away from somewhere due to disability are not remotely comparable.

Do you think you are able to speak for all people with disabilities? What about the people who find the less crowded pavements positively beneficial? Do they not count?
