The drive we share is completely blocked by this behemoth tree-

neighbour has said they rent and the clear up is nothing to do with them

i I can’t get to work

any advice

I’m fairly certain if I got a friend the drag the tree off into the main road it would get shifted fairly soon.

anyone had similar

It's massive and needs 10 people to move it. Chat GPT can recreate it for you if you ask it.

Don't be ridiculous. Sound the OP is making a mountain out of a mole hill. She said even if she got a friend to drag it. Then mentioned ten people!

chirrupybird · 26/10/2026 10:56

If you borrow a chain saw take the branches off and move them one at a time or cut into moveable pieces if you still cant get out round the main trunk cut that in moveable lengths, put all the bits back on the owners property.

Skybluecoat · 26/10/2026 10:56

Is there a way to get to work using public transport?

nomas · 26/10/2026 10:56

‘Trapped in our home’ sounds a bit dramatic. I was coming here to say call 999 as I would call this a genuine emergency. After reading your post and realising that you are actually not trapped in your home but can’t use your car, I’d see if the tree can be moved with help from some neighbours, and if not, find an alternative solution to get to work - car share, colleagues, public transport, WFH if possible in your line of work, while this situation is being sorted by the landlord and letting agents.

If a random neighbour asked me to help remove a massive tree needing 10 people to move it, I would tell them to call a tree surgeon.

And yes, it is distressing if you can't get to work, no wonder OP feels trapped.

Soontobe60 · 26/10/2026 10:43

If it’s small enough for someone to drag it into the road, it’s small enough to get round!

Drag it to the side so it blocks just the neighbours property. Definitely their problem then.

OP, make sure you take plenty of photos from different angels to show you can't get out. Just in case you need them!

Badbadbunny · 26/10/2026 10:56

Contact the council. They can issue an enforcement notice to the property owner to remove the damaged/fallen tree. It's what we had to do when we had a neighbour who dithered about and delayed when his tree fell into our garden. Council tree enforcement officer issued something, I think, called a 7 day notice letter instructing them to have it removed. Upon receiving the letter (which council issued on same day as visit), the neighbour suddenly got his arse into gear and it was removed a couple of days later!

I understood what the OP was saying immediately. Some people really enjoy being unnecessarily obtuse.

Exactly!

helpfulperson · 26/10/2026 10:57

Surely you arrange for as much as you need removed and them bill/take to small claims the landlord. Although I'm not sure he is actually responsible if the free has been well maintained.

SwanRivers · 26/10/2026 10:54

Why not stop picking on people?

The thread title literally says she's trapped in her home.

I didn't join this thread to have to answer to you and your mood.

OP is in distress, can't get to work and your advice was 'you can't climb over it?'

That doesn't help OP. People are trying to support the OP.

Wolmando · 26/10/2026 10:58

How big is it, what sort of tree, a mighty oak or a small tree

ThatLassFromLeeds · 26/10/2026 10:59

OonaStubbs · 26/10/2026 10:53

Get an axe, chop it up and sell the wood to local wood-burner owners in the neighbourhood. It's a win-win situation for all.

Where’s she supposed to get an axe from? I can think of 1 shop which might sell axes that I could get to from my house that’s within the distance I could carry an axe home (walking), and I live in the city.

Likewise neighbours with chainsaws… are there that many people who own chainsaws?!

Skdkhvyvrhej · 26/10/2026 10:59

I am not sure how a pic of a tree is identifying.

If I was really trapped in my house I would call police/ fire brigade for advice.

chirrupybird · 26/10/2026 10:59

Can you give the diameter of the base of the trunk if you can't/won't photograph it? What type of tree is it?

How can AI create an image of something that might be a flowering cherry tree or an ancient oak?

Well good for you then as the tread title is misleading and if you read all of OPs posts, she isn't actually trapped in her home she just cant get the car out. And mentioning a friend to drag it then mentioning 10 people.

I don't think she's making a mountain out of a mole hill. She's clearly stressed, needs to get to work, is on minimum wage so probably won't get paid if she doesn't go in. The tenants aren't worried, they are alright, the landlord, well who knows if he even knows yet, and Op might potentially have to pay for it. Op can you saw it up a bit? to make it lighter so you can get some of it out the way?

Please can you tell us how round it is, we might be able to help

She meant it hypothetically, that if the tree had fallen in a public area (e.g. the pavement, the road) then more help would be available.

She can't move a massive tree.

Plus, a chainsaw with a long enough bar to cut a proper tree needs safety gear, experience, not least that it weighs about 11kg... Some people are so wilfully dumb.

Yes, we have a small one a full size one and one of those with jaws that go round small branches.

And proper protective equipment like eye protection and gloves.

FinanceHo · 26/10/2026 11:02

a colleague has said they will give me a lift tomorrow. Which is a massive help.

Called all of the lettings companies till I got one said they were aware but couldn’t contact the owner currently but they are aware of the issue

I am not paying for the removal myself 🤣

I work minimum wage, am a single mum and have about £3 to last me to the end of the month.

How I wish I could even contemplate that 🤣

hope that was passive enough for you

My thanks for some of the great suggestions here. I went into meltdown mode earlier this was not what I needed first thing.

We need a photo !

Why do you ‘need’ a photo? I don’t

mochimoons · 26/10/2026 11:02

Anyone imagining they wouldn't be dramatic about their car being blocked in by a tree and the neighbour responsible for helping completely fobbing you off is quite frankly a liar.

The situation sounds really stressful!

If they told you the letting agent then tell that letting agent to get in touch with the landlord and email them some photos of the tree. They are responsible to sort it out. They don't have to confirm they let the property your neighbours wouldn't make that up would they?

GreengrocersApostrophe · 26/10/2026 11:02

And I am genuinely laughing at pp suggesting an axe. Without knowing the size of the fella.
"Sorry I'm late for work, I'm hand chopping 1500kg+ of wood. In the rain storm that felled it"
