The drive we share is completely blocked by this behemoth tree-

neighbour has said they rent and the clear up is nothing to do with them

i I can’t get to work

any advice

I’m fairly certain if I got a friend the drag the tree off into the main road it would get shifted fairly soon.

anyone had similar

If you can't get to work or to the hospital and have no money or limited taxi access then you are trapped.

Rubbish. No ones life entirely depends on being able to drive.

Nope, there are plenty of people who have built their lives around being able to drive their car, and suddenly having that taken from you can cause disruption.

Not everyone has the money or ready access to taxis.

Disruption yes, but being literally trapped? No. Anyway, if you’ve built your life around depending on a car and can’t cope when that is removed I feel sorry for you.

You absolutely can be trapped without a car.

I live in London with three tube stations within 5-10 minutes walk from me, 2 railways stations, a bus station and numerous bus routes near me. As well as a car.

But I have the common sense to be able to empathise with people who live more rurally and don’t have these facilities nearby and rely on their car.

Loads of people live in places where public transport is poor or non existent. Not everyone can live withing walking distance of tubes/trams/buses such as the handful of major cities with good public transport networks. Just imagine how busy the cities would be if everyone moved there and abandoned the rest of the country!

They could lose their ability to drive at any moment. Being banned or losing their licence because of medical reasons. Absurd to describe someone as “trapped in their homes” because they cannot drive.

Really? Pray enlighten me as to how you would get from (eg) Hadlow Down in East Sussex to work or a hospital appointment in Eastbourne.

Well of course they're not trapped in their homes.

But their day to day life could become severely disrupted because many journeys are too far to walk/cycle, too time consuming or impossible on public transport or uneconomic in a taxi, if you can find a driver willing to take you.

Looks like about a 5 mile journey. Personally, I’d be cycling that if I couldn’t drive.
