Should I ask for funeral payment back?

My son, a widower passed a few weeks ago, leaving only his daughter as his sole survivor.

As she did not have much money I offered to pay for the funeral and did so.

Then my granddaughter discovered a savings account with nearly £9000 in it.

She has managed to get the savings amount transferred to herself so now has over £9000 more than she had before.

Should I ask her for the money for the funeral back as I only offered to pay for my son's funeral because she believed she didn't have the money?

@Andrea18

Some posters simply don't understand situations outside their own experience. I'm sorry.

Not all people sit at their computer all day.

I was going to give more information but since more than half of the posters are disbelieving I don't think I'll bother.

Goodbye

Bye bye.

I had access to DH's main account within a few days, once I had the death certificate. (I was the executor and principal beneficiary.)

There was less than 50k in the account and the bank didn't require probate/confirmation. (It would have been required for a larger amount.)

I was surprised, but apparently it varies from bank to bank and most no longer require probate for amounts below 50k.

I only needed the death certificate, the will and ID.

I had expected to have to make an appointment, but it was a small branch and when the manageress overheard me explaining why I was there, she took me into her office straight away.

When you die, will your Son's daughter be a beneficiary?
If so, I would leave it, unless you are in dire straits.

No it isn't I've just paid for my mother's funeral. There's no way to book a funeral without paying!

We paid afterwards. It must vary, depending on the FD.

In fact, the independent, local funeral director even had the agreed bill for the wake sent directly to them by the hotel so that we could settle all monies due in one payment.

They said this was to lessen the stress on grieving families

Given the DS died a few weeks ago, I expect that the funeral has been and gone and payment was due in full regardless of when it was due to be paid.

There is no national terms for a payment of a funeral and there will be variance regarding when payment is due. It’s not unusual for a deposit to be paid upfront which covers at least the disbursements and more likely disbursements and a percentage of the undertakers fees, followed by a bill after the funeral. Some will ask for full payment before the funeral takes place.
