Should you be forced to retake your driving test at 120 years old?

Compulsory retest at 120 years old and then every 10 years after that.

What

TheLastSilverSaint · 24/10/2026 09:45

This again?

OonaStubbs · 24/10/2026 09:46

Only one person has ever lived to 120 years old.

Awkwardisfunny · 24/10/2026 09:46

🤣🤣🤣 I see what you're doing and I hope this isn't taken down - it might be relevant soon with all this gene splicing and cures for diseases coming out of nowhere. Probably just relevant for the robots that will supercede us anyway.

hellospring26 · 24/10/2026 09:46

Eh? How many 120 year olds are on the road?

QueryAQueation · 24/10/2026 09:46

Nah. Maybe 140 though.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/10/2026 09:47

I agree. Even if they’ve never driven. These 120 year olds are so entitled.

Soontobe60 · 24/10/2026 09:53

Actually I think that all drivers should take a compulsory re-test for the first 3 years from passing their first test, or up to the age of 21 whichever comes later. Most accidents are caused by younger drivers and newly qualified ones.
After the age of 80 drivers should have their cars removed and be given a free Uber allowance 🤣

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 24/10/2026 10:00

Absolutely agree OP. Also at that age you should have to resit your cycling proficiency test.

WhereAreTheTrueGreens · 24/10/2026 10:03

😂

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 24/10/2026 10:04

There's a strong case for testing drivers from birth.

The other day a small child went the wrong way down the M5 in a Little Tykes car. I know their insurance is steep, but there must be other ways of preventing this type of thing.

Don't get me started on Little Tykes drivers using parent and child spaces!

Pugdogmom · 24/10/2026 10:06

This is a more sensible thread that some of the batshit ones recently..😅

And their 10 metre swimming badge

OrchardDoor · 24/10/2026 10:10

Probably time for Jeanne Calment to hang up her driving gloves.

OffTheMap · 24/10/2026 10:14

Not sure it’s necessary for drivers but I definitely think pilots licences need renewing avery decade after 90

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 24/10/2026 10:15

Last summer my family and I went on a ghost train.
Now I think about it, who's testing those ghost train drivers?

This is why we need these services brought back into public ownership.

Accident waiting to happen.

Ifailed · 24/10/2026 10:29

This thread just typifies the underlying ageism and ableism underlying every thread on MN.

GobbolinoAndSootica · 24/10/2026 10:36

117 would be better. By 120 they will be so set in their ways, they won't be able to change. Making them take a test at 120, is just an old-aged ageist sneaky tactic to get all 120 years olds off the road.

Bigfattwatt · 24/10/2026 10:39

At 110 years old, the state should issue you with a private helicopter and butler to ferry you to Aldi and back. So YABU.

Thatcannotberight · 24/10/2026 11:07

Having witnessed an older lady slam her brakes on outside an Infant school, reverse alarmingly fast to get a parking space ( almost taking out a cyclists behind her) , then park up, get out using two walking sticks and procede to take three small children into the school, I might suggest lowering that age slightly.

Portmore · 24/10/2026 11:13

Just to frighten everyone my grandmother was 17 during WW2. The war effort meant that driving tests were suspended & she along with thousands of others were given a 'temporary' license. These were then made permanent licenses as recognition that these people had already been driving for many years.

She never actually passed a test on her life & drive from 17 to 83. The only collisions she had were in the blackout & hitting her mother in laws garden wall very shortly after the wedding!

I'm 120 and regularly drive juggernauts on the M25.

If they take my licence (NOT a license as I am not American) I shall simply have to rely upon my roller blades.

Skybluecoat · 24/10/2026 11:57

Ageist claptrap!!! 😆

Jc2001 · 24/10/2026 12:10

I'm 125 and I have no issue with being tested. Nor does my husband, but then he's a lot older than me.
