Should you be forced to retake your driving test at 120 years old?

Compulsory retest at 120 years old and then every 10 years after that.

😆 you are being ridiculous. Surely anyone over the age of 60 should just be banned from going out unaccompanied. These people are a liability as pedestrians, never mind driving. And they are always clogging up the queues in the post office at lunchtime.

I'm one of those rare people who at 60 had the self awareness to realise that my being outside was just posing a muttony danger to myself and others.

It was timely really as they turned our post office into a vape shop at Easter and my National Trust membership had lapsed. So really I had no valid reason to be out anyway.

Not that I'm complaining. It gives me plenty of time to sit indoors and enjoy my Seasalt catalogue.

As a very elderly woman of 60+ I think us oldies should be like children of yesteryear, seen but not heard. As
for driving, well, that should be stamped out for anyone who doesn’t actually need to drive. Get a bus or walk.

Moses?

Case in point. He was a shocking driver.

you've started the thread i was thinking about starting OP after all the other 70, 80, 90 ones. lol. 😂

I am 108 and still drive an Intercity 225. The expectation of passengers is that it'll be late anyway, so it doesn't matter if I'm a bit slower nowadays. I do wish people wouldn't use level crossings though, they're hard to spot.

Youlostyourlemons · 25/10/2026 00:44

At 120 you would only be in your prime.

Absolutely agree OP. Also at that age you should have to resit your cycling proficiency test.

This is so often overlooked. I agree. These 100+yr old cyclists are a menace 😁

Adrian Mole had the more radical solution. Perhaps Boris Johnson got ideas from him, as he used to whisper this sort of thing when he thought nobody was listening.

"I wished everyone over the age of fifty would commit mass suicide and give the rest of us a break. No old-age pensions to pay out, no homes for the elderly to maintain, and at least half the disabled parking spaces outside Marks and Spencer reclaimed by the young and able-bodied. Once again I thank Pepys, the God of diarists, that my journal will not be read in my lifetime. I would not like to be thought of as an uncaring ageist. I know that when I reach fifty, I will gladly give up my place on earth, so that the young are not saddled with the old. On reflection, fifty is probably too young. A more reasonable cut-off would be fifty-five (if in good health or a non-smoker), but sixty would be my absolute limit. What is the point of living after then? Sans teeth, sans muscle tone, and sans sex?

Ha ha, great thread OP.

A lot of centenarians round here top up their pensions with Deliveroo, and those bikes are an absolute menace.

They'll be using the souped up electric bikes I saw on the TV a while ago which can get to 45mph..... 😮

They're dreadful, on the pavements, no heed for young people.
