To think Meghan Markle isn’t the problem, it’s Harry?

I don’t understand why Meghan is so often treated as the driving force behind everything people dislike about them, while Harry is portrayed as some helpless man who’s been led astray.

He’s a grown man with his own opinions and the ability to make his own decisions. It’s his family and presumably he has far more history with them than she does. Why is the assumption that she’s manipulated him, rather than that he has his own grievances and is doing what he wants?

You don’t have to like Meghan to recognise that Harry is responsible for his own behaviour. I actually find him more irritating, particularly the impression he gives that everyone else is responsible for his unhappiness.

AIBU to think she gets a disproportionate amount of the blame, while he gets far too much benefit of the doubt?

Oh, it’s definitely Harry. He is responsible for his relationship with his own family. No one can make you be horrible to your family if you don’t want to be.

Having said that, I absolutely think that Meghan is just horrible. She informed her first husband that their marriage was over by simply sending her rings back, and she was only married to him for two years - but was with him for a few years before that. Once she made a few million from Suits and it was a cult success, she thought she could do better, and never mind her wedding vows. And she has fallen out with every single member of her own family and of Harry’s family, except her mum.

And don’t get me started on the way she never even bothered to introduce her dad to Harry, which was the case before all the wedding kerfuffle, and the way that she has never seen him since, even though he was in hospital for a heart operation at some point….and she didn’t even visit him when he had his leg amputated. There is something deeply, deeply wrong with that woman. I truly think she’s a non-criminal sociopath. No conscience. They used to be very close and had a good relationship. He paid for her to attend an expensive private school (same one as Johnny Depp’s kids) and he paid for her uni education, which is obscenely expensive in America. I think she is a despicable person.

Oh - and I forgot all the pain and distress she caused the Queen and Prince Philip at the ends of their lives. Philip was literally dying and they refused to postpone the Oprah interview, with Meghan saying that it wasn’t her problem. And then there are all the accusations of Meghan bullying out many staff members, mostly young women, her response being that “it’s not my job to coddle people.” And telling off William and Kate’s staff.

Really, OP, you can’t see why she’s so disliked? Open your eyes!

He only spectacularly turned on his family in the most public of ways after he married her.

She has a history of falling out/ turning on those close to her, including her own family.

That faux curtesy she did while being interviewed was awful. Mocking his gran. The look in his eyes. Regret. He's stuck with it now.

Yeah, he looked really embarrassed and unimpressed, didn’t he.

She did nothing of the sort. She said she was told they wanted to change the convention, so that they were never given a title, and critically, that meant they would not be entitled to any security. This was at the time she was pregnant and her and her unborn child were receiving death threats.

Hmmmm…and who told the press they’d received death threats?

You believed what the media told you. Kate isn't popular with those who like authentic hardworking people. She is incredibly lazy and entitled and has been tbroughout her marriage as is her husband so in a popularity contest not dictated by the media she scores very very low.

Link please where it states low popularity (other than anti Royalist rags). There was a recent poll which indicated over 75% of the public like William and Kate. Of course Kate was ‘lazy’ last year. She was having treatment for cancer. Or did you want your moneys worth, and would have liked to see her squeeze in jobs between hospital treatment? You’re entitled to think them lazy if that’s how you perceive them, but don’t try to speak on behalf of others.

But you could turn that the other way round and say she gave him the support to speak out on the toxic situation he’s grown up in. Sometimes it takes someone new coming from the outside to give you a different perspective. I think she couldn’t believe how things worked between the RF and the press and that woke him up.

I don’t know which it is but you could certainly interpret it either way.

Edited

Yes, but you could also say she brainwashed him to turn against his family. Controlling narcissists have a habit of doing this. Their victims are more easily manipulated without their family's support/involvement.
I had every sympathy for Meghan until I watched the Oprah interview and my mouth fell open when I witnessed how many blatant lies she was telling. She completely revealed herself to me at that point and I was incredibly disappointed.

This is only my opinion, but the fact that Meghan was estranged from her own family (apart from her mum Doria), and then married Harry and not that long after he was estranged from his own family. It just seems like a pattern. Almost like it wouldn't have happened if he wasn't with Meghan.
I also feel that she was the driving force on the 'Let's slag The Royal Family off publicly and call them racist'.
Harry has never done anything like that before he met Meghan.
Those are my thought's, for what they are worth.

Doria was not with Meghan for much of her life, so you could also say she has been estranged from Doria as well.

OpenScroller · 21/10/2026 21:19

I think they're both awful people and together they created a monster.

I never understood why Harry was viewed with fondness for his 'cheeky chappie' PR persona. I wasn't interested in the RF at all but from headlines in the media over the years had negative vibes about him, the Nazi costume, the racism, the naked pool in Vegas and the rumours from his time in the Army (best not repeated). He has proven in his own words that he is filled with jealousy and resentment for William (not his fault he was first born) and is a spoilt little boy who has never had to take responsibility for anything as always protected by the RF PR machine.

I think he wanted what William had with Kate but perhaps had trouble finding someone in their circle because of his history, so he was easy pickings for a narcissist hunting rich pickings like MM, and suspect there was an element of defiance and an opportunity to challenge his family, and that choosing someone he knew would unsettle the Royal Family (background checks may have thrown up some concerns) might have appealed to him.

Harry is not intelligent so it's easy to see how MM was able to get him under her thumb and presented a way to get revenge on his family and show them up, maybe even with a grandiose delusion of bringing the monarchy down!

Of course she needed to get him out of the control/protection of the RF so she could do what she wanted which was to be top dog over Kate, as she saw her as a threat especially as Harry was close to Kate. When she realised that was not going to happen she threw her toys out of the pram in a fit of narcissistic rage and the rest is history!

Just a casual observation.

IceLollly · 21/10/2026 21:21

I always wonder about this ‘lazy’ thing, surely it’s only a thing since QEII and PAnne did lots of public appearances. I doubt Queen Victoria was out much, anyone called her lazy.

At what point was it decided this all they should do with their time. If William was out shaking hands every single day and didn’t do any of his other projects would that be better?
I think going out is good, like today was really important, but I’m not sure how much is achieves, and if they were out constantly they wouldn’t even cover it in the news would they? So not even bringing attention to charities/peojects? I just think it’s one of those things you can’t win.

Is that a joke? Throwing his family under the bus in OW interview which turned out to be lies, writing an embarrassing book, throwing tantrums when his supposedly beloved grandparents died…. The list goes on. He’s a pampered idiot but his wife doesn’t seem to understand family, was estranged from hers and lo and behold, he then became estranged from his! Toxic!

I agree although I think it's both of them together.

The bullying allegations piqued my interest in Markle.

Absolutely shocking that someone could literally be part of an organisation for 5 minutes, and not just any organisation, and be upsetting staff who'd been there for years to the extent two PAs left.

Also the rumours about tea throwing in Australia and tiara tantrums.

I mean what kind of person does that almost immediately on entry to a globally respected institution and within the most famous family in the world?

It's not like she came from a similar background so it was her norm to have 'staff', and most normal people would have been in awe of the situation and embarrassed/apologetic/helpful to the servants/staff for quite some time before they got used to it and even thought about having tantrums!

SevenYellowHammers · 21/10/2026 21:34

OneHazelBird · 21/10/2026 18:18

Exactly this!!!

It’s literally because she’s a woman and anytime a man does wrong (doesn’t see his family or kids etc) it’s apparently because a woman is stopping him or the ex is crazy etc etc.

Harry has been very vocal about how everything was his choice and why but it’s still somehow her fault.

Yoko Ono syndrome parallels. Complete with the racism.

You don't need permission to write your autobiography or pick a name for your child.

Pretty shitty to tell the world intimate details about your brother’s genitals, though.

Also, when Thomas Markle was doing lighting for “General Hospital” (US soap opera), he got Meghan a small role with a couple lines – the lines being of note because having a part with lines in film or TV means you’re entitled to a Screen Actor’s Guild membership.

Pretty shitty to tell the world intimate details about your brother’s genitals, though.

And about your father's (the KING's) teddy bear FFS. Very private and probably born out of a need for comfort due to his cold unaffectionate upbringing.

Pretty sure it was Harry's own genitals he wrote about (I didn't read it).

pilates · 21/10/2026 21:47

Both as bad as each other - a toxic couple.

Idayatatime · 21/10/2026 21:49

Having read this I've nothing to add except the whole scenario is ludicrous. I understand there has been upset on both sides of the fence. The problem is the fence appears to have turned into a huge brick wall. Every family has times in life where not everyone will see eye to eye or have the same opinions. The most important thing is to remember the children involved haven't asked to be placed in a situation where the most important people in their lives are denying them a relationship with their extended families due to their own petty grievances. Personally I don't blame anyone in particular for the goings on. I do wish they would all get together, sort it out & go on to set an example to families in general.

This.

There is no problem with either Harry or Meghan.

The "problem" is the rest of that bizarre family, the utterly weird individuals in it, and the fact this country still venerates and grovels to a bunch of upper-class twits simply because one of them gets to wear a magic hat now and again.

And yet he doesn’t seem to realise the massive privilege he’s had. People speak about him as if he’s not had people doffing their caps to him. Hes part of it. Still seems to like it.

To me she’s a fairly standard Hollywood celebrity type who probably thought she knew how it would all be as his wife but didn’t really as not steeped in it.

And sure he can write a book about his family, say what he likes. But then you have to realise people will feel hurt and betrayed and that you are not trustworthy.

As far the press, people love to say that they are responsible but we live in a country where people will click on that kind of story. The press don’t just write that in a vacuum.

As for Andrew it’s not really relevant. Harry has been incredibly dim to not realise the fall out from his mud slinging. It doesn’t equate with Andrew but so what? Harry seems to have mainly damaged himself further. It’s his blood family to lose. Not hers.

Firefly1987 · 21/10/2026 22:20

I think Meghan showed her true colours on the OW interview. I liked her before that (although I did think she'd struggle in the RF right from the start and it might be a disaster) but the Oprah fiasco really put me off her. She is clearly very manipulative. And the way she admitted Kate was upset about something at the wedding but turned it back on herself about how upset SHE was and Kate apologised makes me think she likes to play the victim.

I also think Wills and Kate were probably less than warm and welcoming.

Tell that to them. They were the ones that told a pack of lies to Opah and the world! Jeez, the Archbishop of Canterbury even had to scramble a press release to say he hadn’t broken the law by ‘secretly’ marrying them before the big day.
