To be put off a house because of this?

Driveway parking at the rear of the house rather than at the front. Can then walk immediately round to the front (15 seconds).

A deal breaker or not?

Is that literally the only reason? And everything else dreamy?

RelievedNoYouTubeMum · 20/10/2026 18:11

If everything else was good it wouldn't worry me.

Rayanello · 20/10/2026 18:12

It wouldn't be a problem for me.

User573359 · 20/10/2026 18:12

A lot of1960's-1980's houses are like that, I've noticed. If I liked that kind of house, it wouldn't bother me.

PigsawJuzzle · 20/10/2026 18:12

I think you'd get used to that very quickly. Plus, it's an advantage having your car tucked away from anyone walking by.

User0311 · 20/10/2026 18:13

Would bother me personally, that’s with me having 3 babies to load in and out of the car along with bags and shopping etc

MatildaTheCat · 20/10/2026 18:13

All a part of the bigger picture. What’s that like?

Dillydollydingdong · 20/10/2026 18:15

No problem at all. I lived in a house with garage and driveway at the back. It was fine.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/10/2026 18:17

It sounds like my house. I've lived here happily for 20 years but I don't have any small children.

ThatGreenFawn · 20/10/2026 18:18

Our drive and garage is at the back of the house with a 20sec walk to the front garden and it really isn't an issue. Even when I had 2 under 2 it didn't bother me.

user293948849167 · 20/10/2026 18:22

I wouldn’t care as long as I could access the driveway from the back door, I’m thinking for bringing in food shopping etc

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 20/10/2026 18:23

My house has this configuration. It is an absolute pain in the arse. If I do ever move, I won’t even view a property like this.

What annoys you most with it?

Can you get into the back of the house from the rear drive? I used to have a house like that and it was PERFECT. I never used my front door, and it kept shoes bags etc out of the hallway, and when I'd come home with shopping it was easier just dumping the bags straight into the kitchen.

ilovepixie · 20/10/2026 18:27

My aunt had this. She just used the back door all the time. And it meant the living room had a nice view rather than looking at cars.

InBedBy10 · 20/10/2026 18:28

I live in a house with no drive way at all and have to park up the road and around the corner 😭 So no, this would not bother me.

Mableandable · 20/10/2026 18:34

Depends. DH and I bought a house this year with nightmare parking, right next to the town with no restrictions and every Tom, Dick and Harry parks here - it is a mare. However the house was perfect in every other way and the only house on the market that we knew we would never want to leave. We hire a private space at the back of the houses opposite. We no longer have young kids though so that would have been a deal breaker otherwise. A few months in and we havent regretted the decision, we can stroll into town and onto walk along the river in minutes.

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 20/10/2026 18:35

Wouldn’t be my ideal scenario but I would accept it over a shared driveway if everything else was perfect.

greengreengrass3 · 20/10/2026 18:37

We have this set up but our drive is incorporated in the back garden, we have three rear entrances two straight into the kitchen it’s brilliant and the car is ultra safe

MerryAquaKoala · 20/10/2026 18:39

I'd really not like that. It would annoy me the whole time we had the house. Everytime I came home. Don't do it OP< if it annoys you already!

RandomUsernameHere · 20/10/2026 18:41

It wouldn’t bother me. Is there a back door?

Lindy2 · 20/10/2026 18:41

I can't see what the problem would be.

It's a house with a driveway which is much better than on street parking only. Why is the position of the drive a problem when it's only 15 seconds away from the front door? On street or allocated parking space properties could have much more of a walk to get to the house.

SnapAndTap · 20/10/2026 18:42

We had a house like this - but with a back door from the garage into the garden, so you could ho straight to the kitchen. Did it with 2 babies. BUT I parked in the garage - so parked, shut garage door, turned kids into garden, and unloaded the car. It was pretty good, but the house was quite hard to sell .

My requirement for the next house was a double width drive!

WhereverIlaymycatthatsmyhome · 20/10/2026 18:45

My old house was like this. I just entered the house from the back door 🤷‍♀️

Why is that. I had a shared driveway with 1st house. That was hard with awkward neighbours. No good.
