To be sick of people being so negative about the things Burnham is putting into place

Nobody thinks they’ll fix everything but he’s doing small things that can be actioned quickly and will drastically improve aspects of our lives that have got worse over the last two decades - parking fines, music on trains, vaping on public transport. They’re all small things, yes, but they will make things a little better.

He’s not said anywhere that he thinks that doing these things will save Britain. So why are people acting like he has said that?

Absolutely. Also typical are views that anyone who likes the current Government is a hard leftist. Totally unnecessary.

Great stuff.

Great stuff.

Glad you agree it is unnecessary to paint ordinary left wing people as ultra far left lunatics. MNHQ also agrees, thankfully.

The mess that’s made us the fastest growing economy in the G7, the only country consolidating its debt, the one that’s halved immigration - that mess?

"The only country consolidating its debt"

What nonsense is this?

Watching the brilliant "Saving Lives at Sea". The RNLI is a a brilliant organisation and I'm proud to donate to them. 🛟

Agree. The one positive thing the loons have accidentally achieved is to raise the RNLIs profile and the donations. £200k in 24 hours in a show of solidarity.
Looks like the ordinary decent British people showed where their concerns really lay.

The issue is though itll be dark until 10am if the clocks don’t change.

I was at secondary school when we had BST year round for a couple of years.

It was horrible, it stayed dark until well after lessons started. This was in the SE too, it must have been worse in the north.

It’s just people online complaining about it, bots and idiots going on about boats.

They did a radio phone in about this today and everyone was very happy about the car parking fines and plenty of people who were now in court or had bailiffs coming etc due to a small mistake. It’s the type of crap that can mess up someone’s financial life.

A lot of radio hosts only select callers who agree with their position, particularly on LBC recently.

To be fair on LBC I’ve heard them deliberately pick people who oppose each other and argue it out

Ah, one of these!

He is very clearly multitasking - there is a budget coming next week. Very clearly a lot of these things will be addressed then. But doing things that benefit everyday people will help.

I get public transport everyday. All it will take is one or two of the kids that sit and watch TikTok on their phones to get a fine before they stop. Same with the trains. Are you really of the belief that if something doesn’t benefit you directly, it shouldn’t be done?

It's all just lip service! Realistically there isn't going to be someone (don't know who would issue the fine - police, bus staff etc) on every bus or train implementing the fines - the cost of doing so would be ridiculous!

It is difficult imagining anyone who thinks those parking charges are fair, unless you are the parking company ofcourse.

Similar with the anti social music.

There is already something in place with TfL. Only four people have been fined in five years.

The Conservatives’ economic plans are better suited to growth: for example, through cuts to business and employment taxes and regulation to unleash animal spirits; and by slimming government spending to lower borrowing costs, as the IMF and Bank of England have recently highlighted.

The route to growth comes from priming the private sector, not pump-priming the public sector. Voluntary government spending restraint is needed today as insurance against the possibility of sharper, involuntary cuts in the teeth of a crisis.

So why didn’t this work between 2010 and 2024?

At the end of 2025 there were 7.29 million patients waiting for care. There’s now 7.37 million. However, they fell as backlogs were cleared and now people are being seen quicker in general - is that not a good thing?

They probably died waiting, I'm not sure you know how to interpret relevant data as you seem to be making assumptions from headlines

Unemployment is down.

Job vacancies are down.

The natural conclusion is that people are getting jobs and staying in them.

If you read the ONS report, it clearly states job vacancies could be down as smaller businesses can't afford to employ people

Either died or been kicked off the waiting list

At least those people will stop playing their loud anti social music, even if the fine never reaches them.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that tbh. These people are anti social, and don’t care… they’ll carry on

Oh I agree. All I’m saying is some of the radio hosts have a lot more people agreeing with their point of view than opposing it.

One yesterday was about changing the Leave to Remain to 15 years.
Queue a number of callers all awaiting Leave to Remain crying about it.

Fringe upon fringe issues. Almost meaningless in the broader scheme of things.

I’d love to feel positive about him. Just haven’t witnessed anything to be positive about yet. Telling people to wear headphones wasn’t one of the things that really worried me about the future of the UK. That said, I’m prepared to wait and see what the budget reveals.

Well, if we’re as skint as they say, then either taxes will have to go up, or welfare costs will have to come down. 🤷‍♀️

But added up they’re not. That’s the entire point.

These are little things, yes. But they’re a symptom of the social contract breaking down. If they can be fixed things will be getting a little better.
