Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

They'll certainly work out it was the OP when the Daily Mail pick this up.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m planning something similar in my workplace, just awaiting my moment…. I will 100% get a formal warning if I get caught but they’ll have to catch me first… mwahahahhahaha

TheWonderhorse · 19/10/2026 22:18

Mrs Funsucker? A moustache? You could at least have done better than that. I'm definitely all for silly behaviour but it's just not funny. It looks enough like something a kid would do that you might get a pupil in trouble.

I'm glad you had fun, but if you're going to do it, do it properly.

Whyever would a national newspaper be interested in something that would just be seen as an insignificant prank by the vast majority of people. Only on Mumsnet would you get responses like this 🤣🤣

Jonasate · 19/10/2026 22:19

HA HA too funny. Thank you for making my evening. Hope you don’t get found out 😂

You’re not wrong- it was a bit funny too though

I don’t think it at all funny. So unprofessional. And you were complaining about the receptionist’s behaviour!

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 22:14

No I’m not that foolish

Oh the irony 😂😂😂😂😂

Wow there's some real funsuckers on this thread @Saracopp . Their bulldog sucking on a lemon face iimage is very entertaining though. 😁😁

Yep - she really shouldn’t be in a role dealing with people

lol 😂 see I knew I couldn’t be the only one to retaliate like this. Yes I’ll definitely deny and will of course delete the picture- I’ll send it to my husband so I can still look at it when I’m feeling a bit down.

😭👏🏼🤣

ElanaohElana · 19/10/2026 22:22

I was so with you until the sharpie incident. Not very wise. Let’s hope they blame it on an unknown child!

Please tell us you’re a behaviour advisor OP.

Surely there will be CCTV in a school foyer. You’re of higher professional status (and education) than her and doing something targeted like that is more mean than funny. You’d already reported her - and she’d most likely been disciplined. Could have left it at that.

I could have left it but I chose not to. A line had been crossed, it had to be done

Don't be surprised if the Daily Fail or some other rag pick this up - it's the sort of batshit story they love

Notasbigasithink · 19/10/2026 22:31

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 22:14

Also that’s a bit of a reach. You have no idea if I’m good at my job! Sod off

Errr no, it's a public forum, you don't get to choose. Maybe don't post if you can't hack the opinions of others.

Ronathediva13 · 19/10/2026 22:31

And you think the staff member whose photo you defaced was rude and unprofessional?

XenaSharples · 19/10/2026 22:32

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 22:09

It’s funny for me

I love the outraged responses you're getting here! 🤣🤣🤣

Horses7 · 19/10/2026 22:32

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 20:53

Of course I have, but there’s none in the foyer

You might get away with it then ! 🤣
I’m reluctantly impressed with your actions - did you give her horns too?

parkezvous · 19/10/2026 22:32

I think it’s funny

LeftieRightsHoarder · 19/10/2026 22:34

I looked at a local newspaper one of my colleagues was reading one day and saw a photo of an ex-boyfriend who had treated me horribly. He'd won some kind of industry award. I mentioned to my colleagues what a creep he was, then went out for lunch. When I came back they'd made a photocopy of the picture, given him fangs and horns and acne, and pinned it to our noticeboard under the heading "Shithead of the year award". I felt loved and cared for 😂

OP, someone should have put in a complaint about that woman. Her behaviour was deeply unprofessional. It went beyond rudeness and into bullying. Your 'revenge' was much kinder than she deserved. I hope you don't get any aggravation about it.
