Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

Ah I see what you’re doing here.

Well I was hardly being cryptic.

If a child was upset because someone had defaced their photo, what would you say to them?

I’m not going to discuss details of how I would conduct my job on an internet forum, I won’t be playing your game

Did your husband chuckle and applaud you?

I expect he said "you're mad you"

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 17:05

That is because this is an adult in her place of work.
The miscreant was dealt with.
This was a nasty, petulant and base response which was not only unnecessary, but foolish.
That's the context.

”while seemingly having very little to say about the behaviour that led to it.” is my point tho.

Saracopp · 20/10/2026 17:27

oh no your post was deleted / removed 🤔

My husband laughed his head off, he’s not someone to put up with such disdain either 😂

yep you’re right context is everything and the facts can be meaningless without it.

I am extremely dedicated in everything I do, I do things properly and absolutely love details 😁

Hahaha brilliant. This made me chuckle! I don’t blame you

Uricon2 · 20/10/2026 17:28

@Saracopp if this is even true and like others I have doubts, you know this isn't a great way to carry on as a mature adult. I don't think it was funny, maybe understandable if you were 12 and powerless against someone who had taken against you and made your life miserable, a situation where you had no recourse other than defacing their picture. You were not in that position, you'd complained (much later than I would have) and it had been sorted.

What you did is puerile and childish and potentially exposed this woman to real ridicule from any kids who came in today and saw it, especially the words. You can and I'm sure will continue to brazen it out, though.

So whats the point of this thread then? You are both glad you did something silly ,so what? Did you just enjoy getting a response from Mumsnetters? Why not just sit on your whoopee cushions and chuckle in peace rather than pretend you are worried about what you did?

Yes, it's an interesting one.

PuppyMonkey · 20/10/2026 17:35

now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble

You don’t really sound that anxious on this thread tbh OP. Have you heard anything on the grapevine about the school’s reaction since the alleged incident happened?

RidingGirl · 20/10/2026 17:36

You did enough by talking to her and then reporting her behaviour, good to correct people's behaviour when it's affecting and wrong. Why couldn't you have stopped there instead of being an unhinged emotional woman, and controlled yourself?

There's a lack of good discipline/manners in society already and staff members in schools should especially set good examples. As should every adult, maybe things can get better.

Gosh, imagine the dinner table conversation.

‘I drew a moustache and wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’ on the photo of a school receptionist who annoyed me!’

‘Well, I left an angry limerick under the windscreen wiper of a man who cut me up in the car park of Sainsbury’s!’

MakeThatMakeSense · 20/10/2026 17:40

Lol.
Funny. But stupid.
You've done it now though.
It might not get noticed for a while, or it might get noticed straight away. But it will get noticed.

If there's no cameras they will not be able to pinpoint when t was done and , therefore, who did it. Also if she really is a funsucker then really it could have been a number of people who could be suspects.

My advice is, if questioned, deny all knowledge. Deny, deny, deny. Do not cave. No cameras, no evidence. Also, don't tell a soul.

....🤭
