Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

Goats love Interaction with everybody. It's a bit bizarre to think it should be exclusively children who have the privilege of meeting goats.

Crazy that OP thinks people should be denied the pleasure of baby goats!

To be honest. If more adults spent a couple of hours a week with animals the country would be a better place.
But don't be fooled by rabbits. They can be vicious things, fuelled by a sense of self preservation. Stick with the goats.

OP also says on the other thread happening now that women shouldn’t be allowed abortions.

She seems keen on adults not having choices for some reason.

Well, a clear sign of a psychopath is not liking animals they say….

Rabbits are lowk scary, as the kids say.

This made me smile 😃.
Whats your rocking horse 🐎 called?

And if the lady would like a dolls house, why on earth not, some of them have far too much detail for a child's toy.

Now that I think about it, I knew a girl who had one that she wasn't allowed to play with in case she damaged it. We are adults now and God only knows what happened to that dolls house.

Rocky of course 🤣

I agree with you. We are the minority, it seems. I find it odd when adults go to these places without children. Before I had kids I wasn’t standing in line to feed a goat. Each to their own I suppose……….but I still find it odd.

Life is difficult and stressful, @SmashThePatriarchy - maybe some people find a bit of joy and relief in being a bit child-like - I don’t see anything wrong with that - I think it is a good thing.

I'm currently infertile and I like animals. What should I do? Stay at home because my womb doesn't work? If there's anyone that needs to grow up OP, it's you!

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂

I still like to colour, rewatch childhood shows for comfort and get excited over silly things I'm interested in. Does that make me any less of an adult? No.

I went to sleep on the sofa at my BIL and niece's place. I went to sleep on the sofa. When I woke up, I was all alone. Apart from their giant black rabbit that was sitting on the stairs. Just looking at me. He was called Freddy. He scared the everloving crap out of me.

Who made the rule that adults can't enjoy fun things in their spare time like stroking rabbits? Maybe have a think about where you're getting all these internal 'rules' from. Adults are allowed joy in their lives as well.

Go for it!

You might be able to get some ideas from the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury. The house is beautiful and worth a visit all for itself.

I have been there. It's lovely.

After further consideration I actually think adults shouldn't have queue behind children to stroke animals. Adults usually pay higher entry admission than children. Let those little freeloaders wait in line.

😂😂😂 this made me laugh way harder than it should have

VikingLady · 20/10/2026 13:13

The first time I introduced DH to my parents, we did a zoo daytrip. We went to the zoo for most of my birthday trips too. I’ve been to a local petting farm with my mum as adults - we were going to a cafe next door and we thought it might be fun.

Who do you think pays most money for zoos etc to keep going? Who costs them the least to cater for? And it’s not a softplay where adults could be too heavy for equipment or could squash a kid!

I have a turn at feeding the fish at the butterfly farm. I join in feeding the goats at the animal sanctuary. I like having a degree of joy in my life. I also think it’s important in these grim days when my kids are facing a likely grim future that I demonstrate that life can still have joy and fun, even for adults.

Should we be banned from Lego too?

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/10/2026 13:28

I wonder what sort of dull, joyless world, we would ALL live in... if adults were not allowed to anything supposedly 'for children'...

Because it is adults who create all that stuff. Without adults who enjoy 'childish' things - they would not exist, because last I checked, toddlers don't invent toys, write stories, build petting zoos and city farms, they don't produce cartoon comic strips or animated films...

We need adults who enjoy these things. Imagine a world without Lego?!

But adults have different ego states and it's fun when we're in our child state

Enjoying animals is not a child state. It is a human state.

doublec · 20/10/2026 13:50

Only just seen this magnificently judgey thread!

I don't recall petting zoos being a thing when I was younger. That's by the by, it was only when I when I got a cancer diagnosis and was scared things weren't looking too good that I decided I had to go and feed capybaras. Note. Capybaras also weren't a thing when I was younger, or even as recently as a few years ago. Either way, once I was recovered from treatment, I went to feed capybaras. Sure, I was the only adult in my group but I don't think any of the children nor the non-participating adults cared. I was possibly even more overjoyed than the children having fulfilled a life-long dream I didn't know I had.

OP, Stop being such a spoilsport. Life is short. If petting some rabbits and feeding goats makes an adult happy, leave them to it

Mh67 · 20/10/2026 14:08

If i want to go to something and I've paid the money im fully participating. If it says children only and they refuse entry to people without children fair enough. But if adults are allowed in without children they have as much rights as your child.
Just teach your child to wait their turn. Its a life skill.

I'm 71 and thinking of buying myself a doll's house.

Do it!
People think of doll's houses and think of really basic ones aimed at kids.
It is a whole hobby in itself, especially if you make the furniture etc.

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

So on one hand people are up in arms about kids these days being pushed to grow up quicker, they don't get to play the same way we do.

But also, young adults should grow up and stop having fun!

OP get a grip of yourself, wanting to enjoy a bit of fun in this increasingly depressing and dystopian world is not childish. What do you want the adults to do spend all day working themselves to death? They are only allowed to enjoy themselves if they are at a pub as its over 18 only?

Stop being the fun police and lighten up!

KoiTetra · 20/10/2026 14:18

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 13:13

I saw adult couples and older adults with their grown up kids rushing to be first in the queue when they called the goat walk. Ill admit I did think, you sad bastards 😬

And you know what I think reading your post?

You sad miserable fuck, your life must be so full of hate that you can't even see a sliver of enjoyment in other people. That is honestly such a depressing and sad way to live life that you see someone else having fun and your first thought is "wow your sad".

I bet you are a joy to be around!

Given that kids can go to places aimed more at adults freely then what’s the issue? A chunk of the places you don’t want adults at would simply shut down without them.

Can I suggest a one adult per family policy, no grandparents allowed along, etc to give the little darlings less time to queue?

I completely agree with you. I go to these places WITH my children. Weird
