Noisy hotel sex. Why?

Tiredthismorning · 18/10/2026 12:50

Why do people have such noisy sex in hotels? I have just got home from a wedding yesterday, after which I stayed in a hotel. The couple in the next room had vocal sex at 2am and again at 8am. Proper shrieks and moans and grunts and words that I could hear through the wall from both of them, for a good half an hour both times.

Have your fun by all means. But why make so much noise?? I know hotel rooms are private but hotels aren't, especially not in the middle of the night.

AIBU to think it's no less selfish (and quite a bit more unreasonable) than keeping other guests up with music or any other noise. It's not the first time I've been kept awake like this.

Antisocial behaviour IMO. 2am particularly unacceptable, 8am on a Sunday morning also unacceptable - people like to sleep longer at the weekends. Doesn't really matter that it was sex noises. Half an hour of any loud noise at those times is really bad behaviour in a hotel.
Mind you, I began having sex at university so I always knew there were people very close by, so we did it quietly. In contrast, my 2 Gen Z kids are at uni and both have had to listen to lots of noisy sex in their halls.

No we dont do class just get it on. Never have come across loud noises could be in Airbnbs and cheaper hotels. Bangs away maybe you should let loose for once

Play “Ohh Ahh Just a Little Bit” by GinaG on your phone as loud as you can and hold it against the wall…

I'm thinking loudly play the Benny Hill theme tune 😁
That'll put them off their stride

I like to join in with the grunting but on the off stroke. Really puts them off their timing.

Or shout 'she's faking it' at a critical moment.

TheFishFish · 18/10/2026 18:27

Oh no, sex people!

Soreenmaltloaf23 · 18/10/2026 18:31

Because they are away having fun. Ear plugs are always your friend in hotels!

FriendlyMedusa · 18/10/2026 18:31

KnickerBockerGloriously · 18/10/2026 14:01

You didn't hear a peep because the people next door were considerate.

I think all this thread shows is most people are supremely selfish and inconsiderate.

People staying in hotels can have all kinds of circumstances- going to a funeral, a wedding, a job interview, to name a few. And don't come back with 'wear earplugs- not everyone can. For some people they are very uncomfortable.

Ruining their night's sleep is just selfish.

It's quite possible to have sex and not scream or moan.

Well don't you sound like a barrel of laughs...

Honestly, if I overheard someone shagging while at a hotel for a funeral, I'd just find it funny. If the walls are thin enough that such noise keeps you awake, I'd take it as a sign to book a proper hotel for the important event next time. You don't go budget and get surprised when people are having budget fun! 😅

But not creepy posts on a parenting forum.

It's on the AIBU forum, and it's a thread about sex.

Very odd that you'd find my comments creepy with that in mind, perhaps lighten up a bit...

Or shout something off putting like - at least your not vomiting everywhere like norovirus couple in that bed last night.

This thread is really depressing.

  • There's nothing wrong with sex noises;
  • female orgasms are very powerful and often result in totally loss of control and accompanying moans/squeals/shrieks;
  • we're a weird anomoly in human history where everyone thinks we've a right to pristine personal space and silence. Go back a couple of hundred years and your forbears were banging with their own kids, parents, in laws and probably servants or employers in the room with them.

It's
Just
Sex.

The end.

I have a very healthy sex life, the kids are over the other side of the house so we can afford to be a bit noisy without being heard.

But screaming like you’re in a porno is purely performative. I think people who do that in hotels want other people to hear, that begs the question of why? Are they exhibitionists or do they get to fuck so rarely they need other people to know they’ve had a shag. It’s all a bit odd.

Also, men moaning during sex is bogging.

I’m guessing you feel the need to tell women to lighten up pretty often. Good luck with that.

For fuck sake, why do you think I'm a man??

I've been on MN for years and from my hundreds of comments, it's very clear I'm a woman.

God forbid it be possible that a WOMAN can enjoy sex 🙄

You can enjoy sex without wailing like a Banshee so the poor bastards in the room next door have to hear it. It’s performative.

You can. Lots of other people can’t.

I’m not buying it. There is a difference between organic groans, heavy breathing and a bit of noise vs frying your vocal cords screaming at maximum decibels.

It’s like riding a rollercoaster. You really don’t need to scream for the whole ride, that’s a choice.

Sorry, I thought you were a man because of the comments telling women they need to find someone to give them ‘uncontrollable and involuntary noisy orgasms’ and suggesting that women don’t ‘enjoy sex’ if they don’t want to hear it loudly in a hotel. It was just that familiar tone. Woman, then. 🤷‍♀️

Unless you’re staying in a Disney hotel or something, you absolutely do not know that kids can hear you.

Nobody - literally nobody - who shags in a hotel is thinking “Ooh, I hope children can hear” and or “I think there might be kids on this corridor, let’s make it louder”.

The fact that you imagine that’s their motive says a lot more about your imagination than that of the average hotel shagger, quite frankly.

When I stay in a hotel I have no idea whatsoever whether there are kids staying near me. I have zero interest in other people’s kids. The vast majority of places I stay aren’t ‘family’ type hotels and when I do see kids in hotels I’ve no idea what room they’re in or whether they’re awake when I’m having a shag at 1am. It literally wouldn’t even occur to me that kids might hear me. So no, I’m not going to to remain chastely silent and still just in case someone might have a kid in their room, because other people’s kids aren’t my problem and adults are allowed to live like adults without having to conduct themselves in child-appropriate ways at all times, including their own bloody hotel rooms.

Adults are allowed to drink, swear, fuck and stay up late and they do not have to stop doing those things in adult-orientated environments like hotels with no ‘family’ rooms, pubs and grown-up restaurants just in case another adult might have brought a child with them.

I was going to reply to this thread but you have said everything I would have done! All of this.

If you (or anyone) literally can’t, then what do you do when your children are at home?

Men seem to manage not to do it as well, so I’m another one who doesn’t believe this.
