Sillycally · 14/10/2026 13:58

Hi Guys.
Just wondering where I went wrong in life, the outside looks perfect, house, 2 cars, kids, dog, good jobs etc ....

If life was a box, are you

(A) In the box looking outside the box

(B) Outside the box looking in the box

(C) There isn't option C, you are either of the options above

At 40 years old my epitome is, I have been living as an option A, however, I think I am an option B

YANBU = Clarity
YABU = Delusions / Menopause

@QiBengong

Wow, that is a class response.

I've never heard of the Schrodinger's cat, you are clearly very intelligent😊

I suppose I am metaphorically speaking within my AIBU

The "box" is your mentality, and the A or B options are how YOU conform to societal expectations.

For example....

I think your box is full of wine!

I think your box is full of wine!

or "whine"

godmum56 · 14/10/2026 14:55

for me life is and always has been option c

There is no box.

Sillycally · 14/10/2026 14:57

loratadine · 14/10/2026 14:06

My vote is option D, you bought a bottle of Baileys at the weekend to put away for Christmas, but you got bored and opened it today and had it for lunch.

@loratadine

I've been ruptured!

were you behind me in Aldi when I was purchasing my Ballycastle? I should really flag it with the staff that it doesn't flag age verification, or maybe not, could send my 14 year old to get me another bottle at 5pm 🤣

Did you mean epiphany?

lol congrats on being first…there are going to be more posts correcting it than replying aren’t there.

I do love a good error in a title though - but in saying that I now realise how boring my life has become.

Bloody hell @Sillycally Put the Bottle down and step away from it , go and get a strong coffee and 2 hrs sleep.

cartagenagina · 14/10/2026 14:46

It’s a big box of pinot Grigio from the sounds of it!

@cartagenagina haha Class.

Welcome to the option "B" club 🤣

I’d make the most of your situation rather than looking for faults. I was in your position when I was 40 (minus the dog) but ten years later I’m living on my own, divorced and struggling to make ends meet. Rather than navel gazing I’d suggest you embrace what you’ve got.

ClairDeLaLune · 14/10/2026 15:23

The title has now been corrected by MNHQ. But the thread still makes no sense!

If life is the box and you’re outside the box, wouldn’t that mean you’re dead?

If you were in a box there's a good chance you could be dead... RIP

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 14/10/2026 15:25

We spent the 90s trying to escape these damn boxes!

Lamelie · 14/10/2026 15:28

My brain hurts. Is this about living for others’ approbation? The car job etc. I don’t understand.

NimbleTaupeTiger · 14/10/2026 15:31

QiBengong · 14/10/2026 14:15

Are you off your box OP?

I don't want to unpack this at all, let it remain a mystery.
Its never good to box oneself in, much better to box clever
Its either Schrodinger's box or Pandora's box
Either way, there is a certainty of bad stuff and a scraping of hope

Yes, Schroedinger's Cat immediately sprang to my mind too. Too many box options.

momtoboys · 14/10/2026 15:31

I'm too thick for this post. :)

Pluto46 · 14/10/2026 15:33

I thinks it something to do with Class A and Class B drugs

Lifeomars · 14/10/2026 15:35

never even had a box, my life has mostly been about survival, there have been some good bits but the majority of it has been tough. I feel that I have failed at so much despite working hard and trying hard. Maybe I'm just having a bad day, but realistically I have had a tough life, and sadly the past 15 months have been especially tough and have shaken my faith in people

JaneJaneAnne · 14/10/2026 15:36

I’m a bright, well educated woman and I have no idea what your OP means.

I’m not going to watch a random YouTube video, if it’s a good analogy you should be able to explain it in a few sentences.

Have another go OP.

Whattodo1610 · 14/10/2026 15:43

Why can’t you just write what you mean instead of in riddles? 🙄🙄

Agatha1989 · 14/10/2026 15:47

Ruptured? 😱 Sounds painful. Go get some sleep 💤

Crunchymum · 14/10/2026 15:49

Really, it’s not you.

inerja · 14/10/2026 15:53

Idk because on paper I have a good job, lots of money, gorgeous children, amazing properties, multilingual, etc
but I’m also divorced. I don’t feel jealous of my married friends as I’ve done it twice and didn’t enjoy it either time ha
im also quite happy with my lot
so where would you class me?

Somnambule · 14/10/2026 15:55

OP I know exactly what you mean. I felt like B for most of my life but in my 40s have started to feel more A, thank goodness. It's been a journey of working out who I actually am and how to be true to myself, and growing in confidence as I've got older.
