To think free flu jabs for NHS admin staff is ridiculous??

My SIL is admin staff in the NHS, she has no patient contact and no real contact with medical staff, beyond half an hour a week.

She’s just got a free flu jab! AIBU to think this is disgusting? It must cost the NHS so much, admin staff should have to pay. I agree that frontline staff should get it for free to protect the vulnerable but admin staff shouldn’t.

The politicians really have done a might fine job of pitching people against one another.

My employer pays for mine and I work from home lol.

Yep, my employer pays for mine too and I also work from home!

ThatLilacTiger · 13/10/2026 20:20

It should be free for everyone and, to facilitate this, the national health service should be funded such that it is actually able to provide a national health service.

Sunbringer · 13/10/2026 20:21

I think you need to reassess the things you care about in life tbh.

Lobsterteapot · 13/10/2026 20:23

For all the people claiming the flu jab gave them flu - This is NOT even possible! The jab is not a live vaccine!
Please everyone get the vaccine if you can!

And breathe…

cityliving99 · 13/10/2026 20:23

I run the medical room in a large school and don’t get it for free….
I have already had Covid this term grrrr

TwinklySquid · 13/10/2026 20:24

They might not be frontline but they might come in contact with them. Also, who needs the staff off?

TeenLifeMum · 13/10/2026 20:25

I mean, we don’t get many perks working in the nhs… let us have something!

XenoBitch · 13/10/2026 20:26

NHS staff need some perks. This is one.

Trottersup · 13/10/2026 20:26

Do fuck off OP. She's probably paid a pittance compared to what she'd get in the private sector.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/10/2026 20:27

I work in a school and get a free one every year

You're not NHS, you still get blue light discount, do stop complaining about what NHS workers get and take it up with the education authority.

Happhappyhappy · 13/10/2026 20:29

I bet you voted Brexit because of all the foreigners stealing our jobs as well 😂😂

But she deserves it more than NHS admin workers. She’s on the front line.

sinkcat · 13/10/2026 20:30

My private sector company pay for people to have flu jabs and have done for years.

Trottersup · 13/10/2026 20:30

thisisjustridiculous · 13/10/2026 18:28

NHS admin is half the reason it’s impossible to access care!

Let's just hope it comes your way. What an incredibly ignorant thing to say.

Itsjustgonenoonhalfpastmonsoon · 13/10/2026 20:31

I’m NHS admin and will be booking my October flu jab imminently. Just in case it makes me feel iffy the next day, I book it for a Friday so that I don’t feel unwell on a working day. Until now it’s felt like a perk. I can see it’s obviously to reduce sick leave. How dumb am I. 😂

They're what keeps the wheels in motion. Good luck without the admin staff. You lot are very ignorant.

FckThisShit · 13/10/2026 20:32

thisisjustridiculous · 13/10/2026 17:21

Which is why I agree they need them. Just not at a cost to the taxpayer!

Look at it this way, the money that the staff pay in tax pays for their own jabs. You don't pay for it.

Our school funds it for all staff and so did the last one I worked at. It's not an alutristic gesture, it protects the staff absence budget. If your school doesn't, campaign for it there rather than griping because someone esle hers £15 pa which ultimately benefits their employer as much as them.

GeishaTrumpet · 13/10/2026 20:34

Don’t know how she got one, it’s not on the NHS list of eligibility.

Studyunder · 13/10/2026 20:34

The NHS is a huge team of people who all have a role in the overall service provision. Clinical staff cannot get on with their jobs without the admin staff. It’s fucking ignorant comments like this that piss off so many NHS workers over the years.
people carry and pass on the flu virus, it doesn’t discriminate between employment roles. A team need everyone to function as its designed to. You can’t argue with stupid though 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t really bother to be honest. I am not griping.
I have had covid 7 times, but only the flu once.
