To think free flu jabs for NHS admin staff is ridiculous??

My SIL is admin staff in the NHS, she has no patient contact and no real contact with medical staff, beyond half an hour a week.

She’s just got a free flu jab! AIBU to think this is disgusting? It must cost the NHS so much, admin staff should have to pay. I agree that frontline staff should get it for free to protect the vulnerable but admin staff shouldn’t.

And I forgot to add (LOL, like there wasnt enough above)

  • fire marshals
  • H&S leads
  • building maintenance
  • first aiders
  • loggists
  • maintaining clinic stock
  • booking rooms
  • maintaining clinicians diaries and rosters
  • holding clinical teams petty cash
  • Managing discharges
  • data collection

And so much more!

Is your whole arguement based on your username@thisisjustridiculous
God forbid your SIL has a Bluelight card as well.

Have you mistranscribed the numbers of days?

I'm familiar with the higher average sick days between public and private sectors but 9.1 days per year per employee is not 1.9%. (not disagreeing with the principle btw).

Possibly. And at 1 am I’m not going into ONS to check!

Which is why I agree they need them. Just not at a cost to the taxpayer!

YAB rudiculous. The cost of the Nhs will be more like £1.50 not £15. But whatever the cost very much outweigh the cost of having people off sick.

It's hard enough to get people to have it without insisting they pay for it.

Stop being so daft. The utter waste in the NHS would turn your hair Grey if you knew about it. And the Nhs is far from the worst. For wasting taxpayers money..

NHS admin is half the reason it’s impossible to access care!

Nhs admin is 100% the reason it is possible to access care

Even with the free vaccines, the sick rate in the NHS is huge.

Flu isn’t the only reason people go sick.

It’s looking after your employees. It has done to try and help a crumbling system rolling. Without the backroom staff, those who are public facing cannot function and appointments have to get cancelled.

Interestingly, some airlines are not only paying for flu injections for their staff, they are offering an extra day’s leave as further insentive.

If they really cared about the cost of sickness they would stop paying full pay for 6m for people who play the system.

It's far to easy to get signed off and have a nice 6m at home when you work in the NHS

I had a colleague who was signed off for several months as they were unwell with many symptoms, the only one in the large team I was in. They were diagnosed with leukemia. She became too ill to work. Would you describe that as "playing the system" . We always had a back to work interview even after a few days off and another episode in a defined period would mean you went onto a performance management plan. I had a few months off after being seriously sexually assaulted, as the stress and trauma floored me. My manager met with me every couple of weeks, and of course I had to submit regular fit note. I also had to go to Occupational health twice and then had a phased return to another role. Do you think i was playing the system?
