DH Thinks Shane Gillis is Great

We watched SNL and DH kept laughing and I didn’t really get the jokes, but then it came to the infamous “why are all women dressed like whores at the gym” and I was disgusted. DH laughed at it but saw my face and tried to pretend like it wasn’t that funny.

we talked a bit and it turns out DH loves this comedian and can’t stop defending him.

FWIW, I have laughed my head off to many edgy comedians like Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais. Somehow, this Gillis guy seems really off (and not terribly clever). DH’s defense is giving me the ick. We just started a week away trip that is supposed to be romantic and all I want to do is be far away from him.

Very sorry your DH hasn’t been treating you well & drove too fast to frighten you. That is abusive behaviour.

I agree that women should dress modestly but those that dress inappropriately do not deserve to be called whores. It's pretty much the most offensive thing you can be called.

Whoa …what?
This sounds like another branch of misogyny. Women don’t have to dress modestly. They can dress how they like!

Edit: Oh I remember you. You’ve got form for misogyny. You complained that a teacher had big boobs.

Whilst I don’t agree with calling women whores, I do think there is a significant minority of women who dress inappropriately in the gym.

Inappropriately according to whom? You?
Women can dress how they like.

Sense of humour is very variable and individual.

It doesn't work for you. That's all.

Calling women whores isn’t humour. It’s misogyny.

Since when is objecting to women being called whores consider pearl clutching?
And so what of women wear tiny scrunch bum shorts to the gym? If you don’t like them then don’t wear them. It’s really that simple.

What the actual?

Women “should” dress however they fucking like!

Comedian Serena Terry has a pretty good kick back at Shane Gillis 'Thanks Shane Gillis' over this.

'Shorts, all of the shame, none of the shagging'

Asking a question is “controlling”?

Who says what is inappropriate? Unless they are wearing flip-flops or other dangerous attire why are tight or short things “inappropriate” in a gym?

Why this weird fixation on women’s attire ?

You’re as misogynistic as Shane Gillis.

OonaStubbs · Yesterday 17:58

Why is it misogynistic? I think men should dress modestly too. I wouldn't want to see men at the gym with their arse cheeks on display, their shorts so tight you could see their bumhole, or their man boobs hanging out.

Walking around the gym with a wet patch the size of a 50 pence piece on your crotch because your cream leggings are so tight is inappropriate. The wet patch touching the equipment is vomit inducing when you want to use it next. This happens in my gym. The equivalent would be a man wandering around in his boxer shorts - would you think that appropriate?

Also, backless tops or sports bras with the entire shoulders and back bare apart from a tiny strap is inappropriate when you’re placing your bare oily flesh against the machines.

Yes, it’s a gym and there is going to be sweat. But there shouldn’t be all manner of other fluids too. There’s nothing wrong with shorts and a vest, but glorified underwear is not appropriate.

There is a gay man at my gym who regularly wears a fish net vest. This is inappropriate too. But I suspect you wouldn’t say “men can dress how they like”.

Comedians say inappropriate things all the time and push the boundaries.

Do you understand the difference between comedy and everyday discourse?

I do and if someone is resorting to shocking and "edgy" comments they probably aren't a very good comedian.

The difference is, they don’t get called whores.

There’s a man at my gym who exercises topless. Nobody is calling him a whore.

Your comments about ‘wet patches’ and ‘all manner of other fluids’ are weird tbh. WTF are you actually talking about.

Gym equipment does get damp and wet patches after someone (male or female - but usually male in my experience) has used it. People get sweaty! What are these “all manner of other fluids”? Confused
At my gym there are cloths and sprays so you can wipe down before and/or after use.
To wear such thick clothes that there’s no possibility of leaving any dampness would mean you’d absolutely boiling.

I’ve never noticed wet patches on peoples crotches, but then I’m not a total pervy weirdo who goes around looking at people’s crotches.

Plus the material of shorts and leggings are the same - well mine certainly are! The only difference is the length which wouldn't make a difference if there was a wet patch.
