14 year old boy stalked and stabbed a girl who refused to date him, however was deemed not dangerous by a judge and given a restraining order. What goes through these judge's minds? Unbelievable.

CCTV of boy carrying knife in shop. He is stood in the middle of the aisle between the till and some shelves, which are full of products. He is wearing a light grey hoodie and jeans. His face is blurred.

Mother wants justice after boy's 'evil' knife attack on her daughter

The 14-year-old girl could have died in the frenzied attack, her mother says.

Ahhh, the “you can’t say anything these days” trope, trotted out when people don’t actually have anything sensible to add to a debate.

MN is bad for letting racism, abelism etc stand unchallenged. You’ll be fine to say whatever it is you feel.

And which race is he and what disabilities does he suffer from? Why is that poster talking about those things? If someone was being ableist or racist against anyone, even if they stabbed someone, it would be wrong. But they're not?!

100% agree.
But it is what it is, saying anything will just get you labelled racist / uncaring / disablist (insert as appropriate).

Have a day off 🙄

KTheGrey · Yesterday 11:53

My guess is he isn't a danger to Judge Ian Lawrie.

I actually don’t even understand why the poster added this…bizarre.

This boy will 100% reoffend.

It's terrifying

This needs to go back to the courts. This "child" needs to be sentenced properly .what kind of message is this sending out to those who choose to carry knives?
If the law refuses to protect people, the public will have to start doing it themselves 😡

Of course! And this is exactly why this Country has gone to the dogs. We are not protected by the law anymore (have you been burgled? Had your phone stolen? been assaulted?) and the Romanian and Albanian gangs with their organised crime have taken full advantage of it.

Always one that has to bring race into it. The boy is not that it matters what race he is.

This sounds so similar to the incident of the three boys who raped the 14/15yo girl(s) earlier in the year who basically got a slap on the wrists from the judge that caused such outrage their (pathetic) “sentences” went back before a judge. It is fucking disgusting. And if these boys get away with it now then that’s what leads to their entitlement to continue to attack women and girls!

CloveRinse · Yesterday 12:26

AmberTigerEyes · Yesterday 09:51

If the sexual assault was rape, I agree.

But sexual assault also covers any unwanted touching of a sexual nature.

Ok but what about the "frenzied stabbing".

Sexual assault is really bad as it is - but he was stabbing her!

He is a danger to women and to society at large.

Male judge is it?

Of course it is. 🙄

Some men really hate women don't they?! Hmm

dustabsorber · Yesterday 12:35

Surely, the nonces wing of an adult men's prison is the right place for him? There he will receive the appropriate treatment and his sentence will act as a deterrent to others.

Spaniels4Eva · Yesterday 12:37

It also makes you question the parenting he's had...

dustabsorber · Yesterday 12:38

I watched "Time" last night. A couple of weeks in a place like that, where he is being constantly told what the other inmates are going to do to him would put him in his place.

Agree seems like a slap on the wrist. He also needs to be added to the Claire’s law list as stabbing a former partner with intent to murder is serious violence. The only positive is if he violates the 3 year restraining order, he will go straight to jail.

Edited

A pity we ever got rid of Borstals.

There isn't a Claire's Law list, Claire's Law is a disclosure of previous domestic offences if it meets the disclosure criteria

Summer26woohoo · Yesterday 12:57

If it was 'just' stalking and first offence, 14 years old, then i'd agree with the sentence. Teenagers are fuelled by hormones and do stupid and unwise things. You can't bang them all up and a restraining order would be appropriate.

The fact he tracked her down and then appears to have attempted to kill her though...my mind is blown as to how the words 'not dangerous' can enter that situation.

Absolutely awful and barmy outcome.

I would guess he didn’t have any.

My guess is he isn't a danger to Judge Ian Lawrie.

Or Judge Ian Lawrie's family.

Regarding legal definitions of dangerousness, can anyone explain what they are? Because if stalking and stabbing a girl doesn't qualify someone to be described as dangerous, I would say the legal definition is not fit for purpose.

Also, can anyone remind me of how people were able to make objections to the sentence of the teenage rapists? This seems like equally appalling (and frankly negligent) sentencing.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Yesterday 13:13

Awful. Peer on peer violence against girls, including rape, has effectively been decriminalized

SaySomethingMan · Yesterday 13:18

He’s probably white and the judge thinks he has a bright future? Perhaps he has a boy that age and could empathise with him, or remembers how heartbroken he was when he was rejected at that age.
Yes the boy is absolutely dangerous and there’s absolutely no justification for considering him otherwise.

Bunnycat101 · Yesterday 13:20

The problem seems to be a total tilt towards the perpetrator and not the victim. The bbc quoted the judge as saying ‘he’s young and can learn’. What message does that send other teenage boys. You’re young so go and stab someone and you’ll not see prison. That poor, poor girl. What about her? I am shocked at this, I really am. It feels like you’re more likely to be successfully prosecuted for going above 20mp than you would be for stabbing someone.

40 years ago a (male) judge said the trauma Jill Saward had endured after being gang raped in her own home was "not so very great".

40 years ago feels like a different world in so many, many ways. But not regarding how male judges view the sexual abuse and trauma of women and girls

That’s terrible. Honestly what on earth are some of these judges thinking?

I remember hearing this on the radio all those years ago and felt instant deep rage . Most other women I spoke to felt the same too .
