To wish that Mumsnet would hide upsetting thread titles?

Just that, really. I realise we have the option to hide individual threads, but not when they are trending. For instance, there is one on a televised execution today that pops up every single time I open the app on my phone. Why can't those kind of threads be hidden inside a board of their own? Not everyone who visits Mumsnet wants to be faced with a title like that when they aren't expecting it.

My view on this is that Mumsnet isn’t compulsory: it’s a leisure activity that you choose to engage in.

The topic you mention is big current news. Lots of big current news is upsetting.

It’ll be off ‘Trending’ in a day or so. I think you should just go and read a book or something and come back in a couple of days (though there’ll be something else by then).

Or Mumsnet could just fix the obvious bug whereby a hidden thread is still visible to the person who hid it.

OP throughout your life you are going to inadvertently see, read, overhear, snippets of information or opinions that could upset you very much.

You can't avoid it unless you hide away and have no access to news in any form or people who may say things that upset you.

To be "triggered" by just a headline is an overreaction.

Become a Hermit or get Therapy - or just a grip.

I don’t think that’s possible, really, and as many people say we are respponsible for managing our own triggers. However, I do wish that MN (and other SM sites) had the facility for you to edit your preferences - thereby feeding the algorithm of what you see - by allowing you to enter trigger words/ #tags for the stuff you want excluded so that it is pushed to the back/hidden, rather than foregrounded?

I was about to say YABU as most of us wouldn’t find that topic upsetting at all. But you just want it kept hidden for yourself.

I wish you could downvote a post. Which if you disliked the topic you could do and then explain why.
And that everyone could see the number of votes for an uptick and downvote.

One of the best things about MN is that you don’t see other people’s “likes”, so the whole thing doesn’t turn into a virtue-signalling popularity contest like other social media.

I think that happens without the ‘likes’ anyway. Or even more so without the ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’.

Mumsnet isn’t a public service. It’s a business with a product. Don’t like the product? Don’t use it. Got suggestions for how the product could be improved? Contact the business. Some of you take this site way too seriously.
