They honestly are.

I'm English, but live overseas, have lived in different places and travelled most of the world.
I was recently back in the uk for a month and once again i'm bowled over by the friendliness, helpful attitude and just general kindness and positive attitude-not everyone of course, but so many people.
Live in a beautiful place, but the people aren't like this, it starts to bring you down.
Coming home always heals the soul

Anyway, just wanted to say this!

Does anyone agree?

Why? Too multicultural?

?? Why would this make it unfriendly?
Where I live is the most multicultural place I've lived due to a massive international community
London in general ive not found to be particularly friendly, but I've never lived there and only visited as a tourist

My DH is from Manchester and love going back there - so friendly!

It really is and the humour is the best I've ever encountered

Why? Too multicultural?

London had always been unfriendly. The NW is really multicultural and really friendly. Love it up here as a displaced Southerner.

It depends where you are in the UK, but yes, I'd say we are a friendly (but reserved) nation. There are far friendlier and warmer cultures in the world, however - places where strangers would always be invited to dinner.

One poster mentioned France being less friendly - it really depends where you are in France. I've been to places in both France and Spain where people are in my opinion sweeter and kinder than people in the UK (and I'm a northerner!).

Overall most people are pretty sound I think.

I don’t think we are particularly friendly and quite awkward on a superficial social level that’s why we talk about the weather so much

but we are very polite even when being passive aggressive (no one has mastered it quite like the Brits)

and we have a great sense of humour

I have travelled a lot and lived in a few countries where being asked how are you how is your day going is quite normal way to start a conversation ours tends to start with an observation/bit of a moan so we can say out if they other person is friendly/willing to chat

blahdeeblah1I find your comment on Eastern Europeans interesting.
What countries were you referring to?
I am not having a go at you, i'm just interested.
One year when we were in Croatia (my favourite country, but I am British) and I appreciate Croatia isn't classed as Eastern Europe officially. I met a shop owner who was by far the scariest and most rude man ever. I asked him if he was from Croatia and he was.
That man scared me. He didn't talk, he shouted. 😀
Other than that the Croation and Romanian people I have met abroad have been lovely.

I have family in Eastern Europe who are all very lovely, hospitable and hugely welcoming when we visit, but yes on the whole I find people are not as friendly as the UK. I think it's to do with years of communism where there was no need to be charming and great at customer service as nobody owned their own business in any case. Things are slowly changing though.....

I was thinking mostly of Polish, Bulgarians, Lithuanians and Czechs. I’m not saying they’re unfriendly – just saying that British people are (on the surface) friendlier. Different cultures have different ways of being.

I have nothing against Eastern Europeans. I have heritage from that part of the world, and I’ve met some lovely people from there.

Sorry, I wasn't accusing you of having anything against Eastern Europeans and if it sounded that way it wasn't intended.
I once had a bad experience with a guy from Montenegro (not a romantic experience) But again, he was scary.
Anyway, I think British people are friendly.

Yes that makes a lot of sense.
