Neighbour leaving note on estate agents car put you off buying

We’re currently looking to buy our first home.
Very new to all this so lots to consider but very exciting!
Today I was viewing a house which was mid terrace and all the houses along the terrace have room for one car on the driveway and then just normal road parking.
All was going well with the viewing and the house was looking like a promising contender, when we noticed the neighbour was stood in his driveway glaring through the lounge window and had put a note on estate agents car.
She had parked on the road but was not blocking any driveways etc.
It has instantly put me off the house!
we have two cars so one of us will always be on the road and we regularly have people visiting who drive.
Am I bring too fussy or would this put others off too?

I’ve attached a very badly drawn picture to comply with the parking question rules 😛

I feel very sorry for the vendors here. I would let them know that the weird neighbour put you off.

The one thing you can't really know when buying a house is what your neighbours are like - and this can be so important. You are lucky you found out. Wouldn't touch the place.

I feel sorry for the sellers.

I used to live next door to someone like this. We didn't have any off street parking but he had a driveway, but 2 enormous cars where only one would fit. So he expanded his drive so it could easily fit 2 cars. Great, right? Except that he continued parking the larger of the cars on the road, stopping us from being able to park both near our house. Of course, we didn't automatically assume that we were entitled to that space, but I never could work out why he didn't use his expanded drive. Only that he seemed to think the space in front of his house was still 'his' and he was going to prevent anyone else from using it.

My dd didn’t buy a flat recently as an unpleasant woman was shouting ‘Can I help you?’ very loudly from a balcony when we were being shown around the garden. Can’t be doing with the hassle of difficult neighbours. I did tell the estate agent why we were no longer interested.

Someone did something very similar when I bought this house. They’re a very good neighbour who was just checking in on who was wandering around - like a good neighbour would.

A mid-terrace with a drive for one car, when you have 2 cars yourselves and visitors with cars - this isn't the house for you, with or without crappy neighbours!

Seriously? My road is a 1930s one, with hardly any drives - only the end houses have them. The rest of us park one car off the road angled in front of the door, and the second on the road in front of the house. Most streets round here are like that. What were once front gardens are not big enough to take two cars.
We have two because we often need to use both, and DS18 is not going to be insured on DH’s Audi.

@Boolabus
haha yes!
although the EA mentioned marriage break down so maybe one of them paying is the neighbour off as only one of them is looking to buy once their house is sold 🧐🤣

Don't buy it. You will regret

hotchocinsummer · 07/10/2026 18:54

I’ve not read the full thread, but if I was really keen I think I’d go back and knock… “couldn’t help but notice the note left for EA, are there parking issues?”
if launch into a full pelt rant, walk away, if not and a reasonable explanation, crack on

Well, I don't know why you run two cars for just 2 of you, and are looking at houses with no garages or off-street parking.

Is that your problem though?

Sunbringer · 07/10/2026 19:40

Dont buy, feedback that the neighbour seems mental.
