Neighbour leaving note on estate agents car put you off buying

We’re currently looking to buy our first home.
Very new to all this so lots to consider but very exciting!
Today I was viewing a house which was mid terrace and all the houses along the terrace have room for one car on the driveway and then just normal road parking.
All was going well with the viewing and the house was looking like a promising contender, when we noticed the neighbour was stood in his driveway glaring through the lounge window and had put a note on estate agents car.
She had parked on the road but was not blocking any driveways etc.
It has instantly put me off the house!
we have two cars so one of us will always be on the road and we regularly have people visiting who drive.
Am I bring too fussy or would this put others off too?

I’ve attached a very badly drawn picture to comply with the parking question rules 😛

‘Glaring neighbour’ would put me off.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 07/10/2026 15:01

What did the note actually say?

Thr33lions · 07/10/2026 15:02

Yes fuck that. People that think they own random bits of public road because it’s in the vicinity of their home get on my last nerve.

I’d also hazard a guess that someone so quick to make a fuss about something like that is generally just a difficult person and this will be one of a million things that they find issue with.

Hoppinggreen · 07/10/2026 15:02

I was tempted to leave a not on an Estate Agents car once as she had parked like an absolute Twat in the middle of our cul de sac but i ddin't want to put any prospective buyers off so I asked my lovely neighbour who was selling his house to have a word instead

BillieWiper · 07/10/2026 15:02

ThatsSoRainbowRhythms · 07/10/2026 14:55

Yeah I can’t imagine she’ll be looking forward to going back for other viewings.
And the vendors too! I would be so cross if my neighbour ruined a chance to sell!

Yeah he must have a vendetta against them? But then surely he'd want them to sell so they'd bugger off? Maybe they were landlords and had a string of very annoying tenants or it was an unlicensed HMO? Or they just fell out over something random?

Who knows. But they'd need the EA to stalk the area and only do viewings when he's not there? Which in itself wouldn't be honest.

Chilihealer · 07/10/2026 15:06

Yeah don’t buy a house with a known busy cunt next door!

pimplebum · 07/10/2026 15:08

Not enough parking for your needs and a crazy neighbour

LondonLass2026 · 07/10/2026 15:10

I'd avoid.

I'm having neighbour issues and it's so very painful. Other people living right next to you can amplify the smallest problem a thousand fold, and terraced housing feels like you're all living in one house together.

Like my neighbour, the woman you describe sounds like she'd enjoy making your life utterly miserable.

Run.

Whoops75 · 07/10/2026 15:13

Would it be possible to widen the drive to fit two cars. My sister lives in a similar house and they knocked their whole front wall and have room to park two cars. Since they did it loads of other neighbours have done it.

OOO176 · 07/10/2026 15:13

You haven’t specifically stated that the house is currently unoccupied.
If it is, I’d wonder if he is enjoying the present semi-detached situation and delaying having neighbours on both sides.
As FTB we moved into a semi which had been empty for a while. The NDN was a right madam at first!

Well if she’s got any sense she’ll park much further away and walk to the property as she’ll never sell it if he does that every time.

grinandslothit · 07/10/2026 15:21

No way would I consider a house by a neighbour like that. We once had a rental and the neighbour was so nosy and complaining all the time. She complained about the smell of laundry detergent coming from my wash being hung out to dry

Piglet89 · 07/10/2026 15:31

Can you imagine that neighbour if you wanted to do ANY work to the house?

Avoid.

Ninetwenty · 07/10/2026 15:33

Actually do we know what the note said? I suppose it's possible he was giving some helpful info to a prospective buyer?

Jane143 · 07/10/2026 15:36

100% would stop me buying it

Ablian · 07/10/2026 15:39

ThatsSoRainbowRhythms · 07/10/2026 14:39

@Boolabus
haha yes!
although the EA mentioned marriage break down so maybe one of them paying is the neighbour off as only one of them is looking to buy once their house is sold 🧐🤣

Not sure about paying her off but it's not completely ridiculous that she may be colluding with one of the exes to put potential buyers off.

Either way it is a risk you don't need to take so I would steer clear.

They're not a very good estate agent. That in itself would put me off.

PrincessScarlett · 07/10/2026 15:47

If the driveway isn't big enough for both your cars (and potentially visitors) then I wouldn't buy the house.

It wasn’t said in a gossipy way.
it was in relation to chains as we’d have to wait for one to rent and one to buy.
my comment was a joke in response to another posters comment.

That was a stroke of luck that if happened when you were there. I would not want to have to deal with that, the sellers would probably be fuming if they knew what had happened. No way would I be buying that when there are likely plenty of other properties that don’t have a problem neighbour

covencloud · 07/10/2026 15:51

I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. She probably makes everyone’s life a misery.

Wadsworthy · 07/10/2026 15:52

Well, I don't know why you run two cars for just 2 of you, and are looking at houses with no garages or off-street parking.

girljulian · 07/10/2026 15:53

It would definitely put me off. But when you give feedback, do tell the vendors exactly why!

Jenpen31 · 07/10/2026 15:53

Neighbour issues are awful. I found out too late unfortunately. It would me off yes.

canklesmctacotits · 07/10/2026 15:55

A mid-terrace with a drive for one car, when you have 2 cars yourselves and visitors with cars - this isn't the house for you, with or without crappy neighbours!
