Christa Pikes is awake and ‘talking’

wouldntyouwanthelp · 06/10/2026 22:32

She’s out of the coma and talking to her lawyers. Aibu to think the state of Tennessee can’t possibly try to do the lethal injection again ? Surely not? People on Reddit are suggesting she might need an amputation of one of her arms because of how caustic pentobarbital is.

Many Christians believe strongly and fully in an Old Testament God who believes wholeheartedly in an eye for an eye. Your belief or lack of it won't bother them at all, and your opinions on other people's religion won't affect them. Clearly, lots of Christians are good with the death penalty, and this how many angels can dance on the head of a pin stuff is not actually important, or revelatory.

Yes, many Christians pick and choose what they believe in. It's all absolute bollocks in any case. Religion simply controls people as your post illustrates.

SpecialShark · 07/10/2026 09:32

She should have been put to death long ago by firing squad.

It does indeed sound awful, because botched executions are not "karma". Ask a Buddhist.

Very rare an execution is botched though? I believe everything happens for a reason, her crime was atrocious and because of that now is her execution.

Religion is the main cause of a lot of the world’s craziness.

It’s madness what I see written on these sort of threads, if this was any of your family members killer you wouldn’t be saying half the stuff you are on here. If that was my child, my family member she had murdered and tortured 110% I would be laughing at what is happening to her right now. The woman is scum just like all the other killers, rapists, Peadophiles and child abusers.

SquirrelsEatingConkers · 07/10/2026 06:23

Um, they choose to be on death row so long - with do you think it is? It's not the state's doing, it's because they're running endless appeals trying to get out of it. The prisoner could choose not to appeal if they preferred, then they wouldn't have the death sentence hanging over their heads for decades and the state could get on with applying the sentence it gave out.

I don't actually think they can choose not to appeal - if they don't appeal, the state appeals for them.

However, there's no reason for it to all take so long.

But our system isn't much better - we don't have the death penalty but it shouldn't take the length of time it does for someone like Andrew Malkinson to; be vindicated.

Spot on. The Old Testament also commands that adulterers be stoned to death but you never hear of that being called for and justified. Yet murdering the murderer is all well and good.

You're entitled to believe that but a) that doesn't make it true and b) that's not "karma". You think Buddhists applaud botched executions?

Besides, if you think the botched execution happened for a reason, that reason being that her crime was heinous, you'll need to explain why, as you say, not all executions for heinous crimes are botched. Or why all murderers don't just drop dead at an early age or, indeed, why murder happens at all. You know, if everything happens for a reason.

And they are botched rather too often for my liking, especially with lethal injection. Do you fancy a 7.2% chance? (These stats are from 1890 to 2010 so they don't include recent botched executions like this one, or the ones of Mikal Mahdi and Tony Von Carruthers. To be fair, I am not sure whether enough people were successfully killed by the state to improve the stats overall, but the firing squad no longer has a perfect record.)

I don't think her mom/stepdad agree. They said Colleen's soul will not rest until her killer has died.

But, with every respect to them, that is purely a belief they hold. It is not actually true.

Or crushed her skull in like she did to her victim.

It’s evidently effective.

The trouble with the for an eye is it’s a very steep, slippery slope. If you want to apply it then you must do so uniformally, no? There are plenty of killers / violent offenders / thieves / child molesters out there - should they all get eye for an eye or just the ones you’ve heard about because they had highly publicised trials?

How should we carry out the eye for an eye punishments? Killers I suppose is easy, and ABH etc - although you’d have to be careful to exact the right amount of damage, not too much, not too little. What about child molestors? Should we molest them? Or their children?

snowbear22 · 07/10/2026 09:50

Christina Pike is part of a wider movement I think to de-criminalise criminals- I don't agree with the death penalty but I have lost faith in the State to lock up the violent and separate the non-violent from the violent, such as the early release schemes in the UK.
There is a movement to remove carcerial justice and to replace it by turning our society as a sort of 'open prison' where criminals have restrictions on where they can go, they have tags or exclusion orders enforced by a more gestapo like police who use survelence to monitor the population.

Look at the suspected bombers at RAF Fairford they were released into the community on bail and will be survailed there.

The punishment element of prison is seen as inhumane and more and more everything is categorised as a mental health issue. The Government can just let them out to murder again like these prisoners on early release:

Lawrence Bierton Murdered 73-year-old Pauline Quinn in November 2021 by beating her to death in her home.
Liam Jones Inflicted at least 37 injuries on a disabled father-of-five, Phillip Breach, in Oxford in November 2022.

Absolutely seriously, you need help.

They used pentobarbital, which is what the vets use to put animals to sleep.

It sounds like they didn't get the catheter in correctly, and the solution then went perivascular.

It's a colossal bugger up. The vets never get it wrong. Heads should be rolling over whoever put her catheter in - you just flush some saline and check it is flowing correctly. I just can't understand it.

That´s where her blood clotting syndrome comes into play I guess. The lawyers warned the authorities, but they wouldn´t listen.
I completely disagree with the death penalty. Life without the possibility of parole I can live with. Also, this woman is very damaged by her childhood and keeping her in prison is safer for everyone.

@Blackwidowsbite What had 2-year-old Christa done to "deserve" being raped?

That's what karma is allegedly about in your misunderstanding of it, right? People getting what they deserve?

What had Christa done as a fetus to deserve FAS?

I don’t care what Buddhists think. This woman should have been executed ages ago, it’s a joke how long it takes for criminals to end up on that table in the first place. I have expressed what I believe and as you said I am entitled to, I’ve not invested into researching the figures of failed executions because personally I do not care, they got death because of their crimes. This should be brought back to the UK too. I mean look at what those two ‘fathers’ did to that poor little Preston? Absolutely vile, inhumane and sicken. They should be executed, just like Myra hindley, rose west, Fred west, Ian Brady, Levi bell field etc the pain and suffering they have caused many families and people and yet they get to live even Ian Brady still had control til his death, no one knows where little Keith is still, his own mother couldn’t bury him and died still not knowing because he wanted to keep it to himself like the sick fuck he is. These sort of ‘people’ if that’s what you want to call them, personally they are monsters in my eyes don’t deserve to carry on with their lives even if that is in a prison cell. The families and friends of the victims end up living with trauma and mental illnesses for the rest of theirs while they are still living in a cell and most of them not showing or feeling an ounce of remorse for their crimes.

Not as much as Colleen and her family!!

I don't know - Colleen had a terrible death but what was her life like before that? Maybe she had a happy childhood.

I think Christa has had by far the worst life.

She needed to be locked up for other peoples' safety (and to maybe give her a chance to be rehabilitated and given therapy for her trauma) but I fail to see how a botched execution 30 years after the event achieves anything.

Come on now, there are loads of people in the world who have been through this doesn’t mean you go on to torture and murder others. You know right from wrong.

I expect they'll commute her death sentence, as a kind of apology for this travesty. I really can't imagine that they'll put her to death now. She'll probably do life without parole - which also sounds horrendous. Imagine knowing that you're never, ever going to be free again.

After this, I'm beginning to see why hanging used to be the method of choice. It's really grim but at least it was always effective. There have been many other instances of executions via drugs going wrong. Idaho recently introduced death by firing squad, which sounds horrific. 🫨 I don't expect it'll ever actually happen. There would be multiple legal challenges and surely it would come under "cruel and unusual punishment," as I imagine what happened to Pike would, too.

I don't feel very sorry for her. Not only did she carry out a truly vicious and cruel murder, she also tried to murder another inmate in 2021. There's something wrong with that woman. But it's unacceptable for executions to go wrong like this.

Edited

Well yes, there is something wrong with her. She was massively abused from the age of 2 onwards, and the state failed to protect her. Plus, when you lock someone up for decades on end and tell them that their only escape will be when the state cold-bloodedly takes them out and kills them, you create a situation where you have told them that they have absolutely nothing to lose by committing further crimes.

I don't excuse a single thing she has done, but the state should contemplate whether this sort of punishment is proportionate for someone whom the state has damaged so badly throughout her life.

I am surprised that since they are such god-fearing folks down there that they just don't accept that it is divine intervention and commute her sentence.

That's what I don't understand either. God has chosen for her to live.

The American certainly don't mess about when it comes to handing out punishment. Agree about the solitary, but she did try to murder another inmate in 2021, so maybe she was in solitary for a reason.

She was in solitary because she was the only woman on death row. So she received greater punishment for being female.

I would have thought it was fairly obvious. Why would a God make people suffer so much .. and that includes creating the evil people that inflict suffering to others.

No it's not obvious.
Why don't you post your query in the "Religion & Philosophy section ?

A lot of people are in severe pain before they die - often for much longer than 60 seconds, and often they didn't do anything to bring it upon themselves. I don't think that's a particularly big deal. It's not like they deliberately set out to torture him. Besides, having murdered three men, and attacked and stabbed a corrections officer while attempting escape, I'm not particularly bothered by the poor wee lamb spending a measly 60 seconds suffering.

Although a bullet through the head at point blank range would be better, if they're going to shoot people as a method of execution.

That argument just doesn't work. If people are in pain before they die as a result of natural or accidental causes, we do all we can to ameliorate it. What we do not do as a society is deliberately cause it. Yet in this case we did, in cold blood. It's not good enough to say they didn't plan it; they put him in front of a firing squad, so took a very deliberate risk of precisely what happened. That puts the state in a position where they are morally no better than the person they are supposedly punishing.

You think they would’ve just injected her with something else to finish her off, an overdose of morphine or insulin

They wouldn’t have needed to even do that.

she was on life support. All they needed to do was withdraw active resuscitation and have end of life care.

but no, they have keep her alive so they can kill her publicly and get their revenge.

it’s brutal and honestly it makes those involved in the execution no better than their victim. They are torturing a woman to death. Repeatedly. They are just as evil- Christa was an abused child and at least had some mitigation, these people are doing it out of completely cold blood.

ianal but I would think she would have a case with human rights court? This is not execution, it’s torture. But it’s the US where they’re not big on human rights 🙄
