You would just have to press a button and you wouldn't have to see it happen

You would be guaranteed not to know any of them beforehand

No one would know it was you unless you confessed

Yanbu yes
Yabu no

No, I wouldn’t. All lives hold meaning and worth and I wouldn’t take the karma on for killing all those people while saving one person I loved. Death is inevitable as soon as we are born.

Duncantoldme2 · 06/10/2026 09:10

I suppose it's like eating meat. Had to kill it yourself, far fewer people would eat meat. Go to the shop and buy some, fine. Kill 10000 people in person no they wouldn't do that. Press a button so don't see any of the death destruction and heartache, totally fine.

Although one pp did say she she would kill the 10,000 people, in person with her bare hands (or something like that). Not sure she thought it through tbh.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 06/10/2026 11:46

If there was a button in front of me and I knew my kids would die if I didn't press it, could I resist pressing it despite the horrible (but to me, entirely abstract) consequences. No, I don't think I could.

knor · 06/10/2026 18:01

I would to save my daughter.
however I do wonder if the guilt afterwards would haunt me forever and become too much. But I would 100% for my daughter (but only her, no one else.)

Yes to save my son I’d do anything

Really…

Skates · 06/10/2026 18:04

After the day Iv had at work I would happily press the button

SleepQuest33 · 06/10/2026 18:09

I can’t see this scenario ever playing out so I’m not going to even contemplate it.
can you give me a more realistic situation?

Forevergardening · 06/10/2026 18:18

Absolutely would. Nothing to see. Would I feel some guilt, yeah but as a mother I do anyway.

tripleginandtonic · 05/10/2026 19:53

You'd kill innocent women and children?

What if the three people they’d save are also innocent people?

So you’d sacrifice your kids?

Yes for my DC & the scary thing is I would still sleep peacefully at night, probably because of the anonymity.

Edited

I think this is the honest answer that few would admit. People would do a lot for their loved ones, especially if there was no consequence. Those that say otherwise are being dishonest with themselves.

Noshowlomo · 06/10/2026 18:24

Wildefish · 06/10/2026 18:03

Really…

Yes. Wouldn’t any parent do anything to save their child.
I mean, this is a totally mad question, and it would never happen though

Gengha · 05/10/2026 19:36

I am against the DP and appalled by the CP situation but what has this got to do with OP’s question?

OP yes I would but only to save my child/ren. No one else

10,000 dead to save your children. What if those mothers each killed 10,000 to save theirs.

Wildefish · 06/10/2026 18:28

Shrigley · 05/10/2026 19:41

I think the honest answer must be yes, when you consider what else we do eg I've spent the best part of £1m just on my children's education alone so far- how many children would that have saved in sub Saharan Africa?

Others may not have such an extreme example to share but the principle still applies- how many lives could you have saved just for the cost of non-essentials spent on your children? If it's a large number (and I'm sure it is) how likely is it really that you'd put 10000 lives over your child's life?

Not quiet the same as actually killing 10,000

TotaleclipseinFrance · 06/10/2026 18:28

I think, because of course there's no way of knowing nor would there ever be, the answer would be yes.

It's human nature to save nearest and dearest.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/10/2026 18:29

The whole world can burn if it saves my dc.

No I would not kill 19,000 people to save someone I loved. I may killed someone who is trying to kill someone I loved to save them.

envbeckyc · 06/10/2026 18:30

Interesting scenario…, however the people who I love most of all respect and love me because they know that I wouldn’t make a decision to kill somebody, let alone 10,000 people!

I would sell everything I own to pay for treatment to save the life of a loved one… I would even sell a kidney!

But I could never choose to deliberately cause harm or kill others or indeed anyone!

I guess that rules me out from being a genocidal dictator, having my own palace, and army… but that’s honestly ok!

What about 'would you kill your loved one to save 10000 people?'

Shloopie · 06/10/2026 18:34

boredsmored · 06/10/2026 06:03

@gostickyourheadinapig don’t let this thread be any indicator of normal parenting.

We know soldiers etc suffer PTSD and yet there is a bunch of MNs who whilst not answering their doors at night can shoot 10000 people in the head and sleep soundly 🤔

Lol. So true. Scared to open the front door to a neighbour but would definitely march on out and snap 10,000 peoples necks.

Emeraldforest · 06/10/2026 18:35

No, that reminds me of that film Taken, when Liam Neeson kills loads of people to find his daughter...I always hated that,a lot of them were innocent. Why was she more important than all those others,in world terms?
I would die myself for one of my loved ones, but I wouldn't be thrilled about it.

ThatLemonBee · 06/10/2026 18:39

I will set the whole world on fire for the people I love . Literally, this is not a way of speaking or a dramatic way of saying things . When it comes to my kids , husband , parents , best friend I would literally kill anyone with my bare hands . If it was saving them or press a button that would kill the 9 billion people in world o would press the button with no second thoughts.
My family is my everything and I’m loyal to them 1000%

inappropriateraspberry · 06/10/2026 18:41

No. No one person is worth 10,000 lives.

PetuniaT · 06/10/2026 18:42

What do the voices in YOUR tell you to do? You're weird
