People are STILL using their phones whilst driving and at traffic lights!

I’m sick and tired of nearly having car crashes on my busy commute because some idiot is on their phone.

I had a near miss on Friday when the lights changed and the car in front tried to pull away whilst still on their phone and nearly crashed into me. Then yesterday, I was on a two lane road with traffic lights every 250 yards or so, and every time I stopped at a red the car next to me were looking at their phone.

If I did it ( obviously I wouldn’t) you can bet I’d get caught!

Speed cameras are standard, so why not catching people on their phones? Obviously the law doesn’t apply to them

Yanbu. It should be an instant 12 month ban and the car and phone being crushed.

I see it often as I walk everywhere, really tempted to get some meta glasses so I can upload the footage for the police to prosecute. There is literally no call or message that is more important then safe driving. I think the police have recently got some better tech, overhead cameras, to spot drivers doing it.

I was in slow moving traffic on a dual carriageway for about 2 miles the other day. The woman in the car behind me was either looking at her phone or doing her makeup the whoe time, occasionally flicking her eyes to the road ahead! I was thinking don’t you dare rear end me because of your inability to focus on the job of actually driving your car 😡

@BeingATwatItsABingThing

surely we have the technology to police this? There are cameras on lots of traffic lights, so it would make sense to use this.

it’s the arrogance that makes me mad.

Unfortunately no cameras on the road I’m referring and it wouldn’t have been visible on any doorbell cameras. I agree there needs to be a bigger push to get people to stop.

@Lifewasapillow

100% agree that no call or text is that important!

I live on a busy main road and never cease to be amazed at how many people are on their phone while driving. I’ll often be playing with DCs and watching the traffic out the window it seems every other person is on their phone and that is not an exaggeration.

SerendipityJane · Today 14:19

If someone is caught using a phone while driving, then they should have the choice of either the car or the phone being crushed as a punishment.

After all they are both being used to commit an offence.

ThatFunnyCoralScroller · Today 14:24

Doesn't it seem to be increasing recently? I get the bus to work on a busy road and the amount of people using phones seems non stop. Including lorry drivers.

Driving standards are appalling generally now.

Someone I know just passed their test at the 11th attempt and they and their partner keep joking that they only passed because the examiner was too frightened to face another test with them.

There’s an assumption that if you can scrape through your test that’s enough. Rather than if the actual responsibility of driving is wise if you’re shit at it. Of course shite public transport in many places doesn’t help.

MadisonAvenue · Today 14:25

It’s a huge and dangerous problem and more needs to be done.
The amount of times I’ve been in a queue at traffic lights and the car in front is still sitting there when the lights have turned green, because they’ve failed to notice presumably because their attention is on their phone, is ridiculous. Or sitting there in a queue and you can see that the person behind is looking down into their lap.

Me and my son use the M6 a lot so are frequently stuck in slow moving traffic and so many people have a phones in their hands while crawling along.

People forget that the driving test really is the lowest common denominator, not some sort of proof of skill.
