Would Labour voters be upset if joining the EU meant they could no longer tax children’s education?

Taxing children’s education is banned as part of EU membership. If the U.K. rejoined the EU, would Labour supporters be upset that they can no longer levy the tax or would it be seen as a necessary compromise.

And we've already explained that it wasn't about economic value.

Labour knew the official estimate of how many children would move to state was too low - internal communications have come out that say so.

And so it has proved. They allowed for 37,000 pupils moving over 5 years: we're already at 30,000 after 2 years. It's looking reasonably likely that we'll hit the 10% mark (57,000 children) which means the tax will actually cost money.

You might not want to believe that they were deliberately harming children for no reason, but I'm afraid it is reality.

No, it’s your somewhat skewed interpretation.

What will your interpretation be when it hits the 10% and costs money?

That it was deliberate?

Or that Labour really screwed up - despite all the warnings?

I thought it was quite clear that I was talking about the mentality of people voting and not the motivations of the Labour party. The average voter would have taken the promise of 6,500 new teachers at face value and probably would have thought that VAT wouldn't have made any difference to whether a child stayed in their school or not if they had thought about that aspect of it. I am not saying that it was a good policy. I am saying that people are not inherently evil to vote to hurt other people, particularly innocent children.

I don't have enough information to judge that, and neither do you.

I can only interpret what I see.

I believe that people are on the whole decent as far as children are concerned. You say that you don’t have enough information to judge that yet you extrapolate the nasty behaviour of a handful of randoms on an anonymous site to believing significant numbers of voters actively wish your child harm and hence your social contract with society is now broken. There seems to be a disconnect here.

Its not just a handful of randoms, the policy was implemented by Labour with their voters approval. I don’t really know what the point is you’re trying to make? Can you be specific?
