Friend using mothers parking space to make money

Tiggermad · Yesterday 20:39

We live local to a busy airport where parking is expensive.
My mother who is elderly has a parking space outside her home no car. It is 5 minutes from
airport.
One of her friends daughters who I also follow on social media and lives about 10 houses away from
my mother advertises her parking space a a cost weekly to people leaving cars for weeks as opposed to using airport car parks. I see her advertising regularly.
A few weeks ago my mother said her friends daughter had asked to “borrow” my mom’s parking space for a “friend” going on holiday. I have seen her advertising spaces for multiple spaces.
I think she is using my mother’s space to charge others under the guise it’s for a friend. So. effectively she is making £25-30 a week if she rents spaces out.
i feel this is morally wrong if she is making money out of my mothers space. I’ve no
proof though.
I have not raised this with her friends daughters yet as when I asked my mom she became a bit defensive but she is quite vulnerable.
What can I do to ensure she isn’t used for her friends daughters to make money of her drive ??

Yes
so these cars will be parked outside her front door!

she knows And has agreed to it is my guess.

maybe just to piss you off if she’s half as as abusive and horrible as you say

I know you are probably right…..

So it must be resident only parking if she can rent it out? Otherwise anyone could
just park there

Ya think!?

It's like watching rusty cogs slowly grinding on here sometimes.

Oh dear someone hasn’t read the thread

it’s a private driveway

My mum doesn’t have a car so it’s a free space. She is mid 80’s.
she won’t accept her friends daughter is using her because she says it’s her friend using her space but if she is advertising so much in social media in our local airport site.
I think her friends daughter uses my kims as an overspill space.

Who's Kim now?

So put this to then back of your mind
your mum is playing with you
don’t rise to it

Do you think.
ive resumed very low level contact and am now seeing her maybe once every few weeks.
I take her out for a meal because the guilt is awful but I get nothing back.
Sorry completely off topic . But I just feel the whole parking thing is abuse really .

Just to be clear, I was being sarcastic (genuinely sarcastic, for anyone who enjoyed the BB thread earlier today).

ETA that I knew

Yes I do
This is totally in keeping
she will be receiving a share
and she’s done it to spite you

I don’t care what she gets or not and she can’t spite me because I don’t need any of her money.
Though to an extent I am still having to give her money that’s ongoing…….

No I mean to spite you because she’s doing this without telling you
and that it would piss you off
and basically just a mind fuck

and sadly it’s worked

You are probably right.
ive no idea why a mother would be so spiteful to her daughter and I’ve had years of it. She never tells me the truth anyway,
Maybe it id another lie…….

So…. Totally ignore it
don’t mention it again
even if you see a car parked there, not a word

although the most sensible thing would be to stick to NC rather than this back and forth

DownwithTG · Yesterday 21:09

I really feel for you actually

JoSFry · Yesterday 21:22

Fuck it go NC again and stop giving her money

RumPidgeon · Yesterday 21:26

You should be able to get photo evidence as some people who review spaces leave images.

Could you try „book“ it yourself but once you got the info cancel it? I think it’s outrageous and would inform your mum once you have proof.

You could also say you can no longer let her have the space as you plan on renting it out. Install a camera and make sure you’re on a plan with continuous recording.

Start doing this yourself and use the money for your mum. Block access to the space / report it to the council or police if she refuses to stop. That's disgusting behaviour.

ReadingSoManyThreads · Yesterday 23:19

You do have proof - screenshot the social media posts.

You could report this to the police for elder abuse.

You could also reply to some of the Ads on SM shaming her for elder abuse, or keep it factual, that to the best of your knowledge, she appears to be renting out a private driveway that belongs to an elderly woman and is not passing on the money. Obviously you'll get blocked though.

GlosGirl82 · Yesterday 23:25

Wow - this is appalling- charge her or tell her you will report her for elderly abuse

comealongdobbeh · Yesterday 23:30

Try and book the space yourself under an alias and see what happens

Friendlygingercat · Today 01:15

I was once approached by a CF neighbour asking if she could "use my drive" for one of her vehicles as it "seemed a shame" that I had no car. I told her I would look into hiring it out and let her know which app I was on if I decided to go ahead. Good conversation stopper.

Nothing wrong with hiring out your drive. Informally it could be a great cash in hand money spinner. I live near a major airport but my privacy is important to me so I don't want randoms on my drive.

DryadsRest · Today 01:46

it seems odd that the app can be used to rent out spaces that the app user doesn’t own
is there a contract/insurance in place to protect your mother if the car park person damages her property or she accidentally damages their car?
If your mother has home insurance it probably breaches that and the terms of the app!
it is her property and she is likely not leasing it with her knowledge ? So that would potentially be fraudulent use of her property
I personally wouldn’t want strangers using my elderly mothers driveway but would have no problem with mutual acquaintance parking on it

Gingerkittykat · Today 02:15

Can you chain her driveway gate shut?

That's some grand driveway you're thinking of! I don't know anyone with a gated drive.

Besides, I wouldn't think OP would lawfully be able to do that without her mother's express permission.
