AIBU to ask if this grief after my mother's death is normal?

I'm 70, my mother (98 years) passed away on Tuesday after a fall, I had been planning a visit before she fell I but couldn't be bothered to go (we are 4 hours away), in elderly ITU she recognized me and spoke but then closed her eyes. I can't stop crying. Is this pain normal?

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my dad a couple of weeks ago and wish I could cry. I know when it happens I will feel better but I am just totally numb. We all grieve in different ways, be kind to yourself

Thanks to everyone who has replied to me. I'm feeling better, though I just have a period of tears every so often. I would like to have said more to mum, but many things we said to each other were not always terribly kind, it was just normal family life. She said a couple of times on the phone that it was lovely talking to me. She also told family that she was done with life, having looked after our father with dementia for his last 10 years until he died in a nursing home. Being old myself, we were actually getting to understand each other!
But it has made me feel empathy for people who have lost family close to them, suddenly and unexpectedly. Life really is a bitch.

I’m 55 and both parents died 18 years ago. No one fills that void
